Inferno Land NHL Experience in the Net

COLUMBIA, SC (January 27, 2006) - The Columbia Inferno announce that goaltender Jani Hurme has been reassigned from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.

Hurme, 6'0, 195 lbs., Turku, Finland native has played a total of 76 games in the National Hockey League with the Ottawa Senators and the Florida Panthers. During his three-year stint with the Senators, he went 25-14-5, .902 save percentage and a 2.32 goals against average, including five shutouts.

He was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the third round of the 1997 NHL draft, 58th overall. In 2002, the Ottawa Senators traded Hurme to the Florida Panthers where he went 4-11-6, .907 save percentage and a 2.88 goals against average. He was then claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2003 waiver draft and then immediately traded to the Atlanta Thrashers. Atlanta reassigned Hurme to the Chicago Wolves in November 2005 where he played six games, went 2-4-0, 3.64 goals against average and .854 save percentage.

"We are very excited to have a goaltender with Jani's NHL experience to join our hockey team," said Coach Ted Dent. "It will provide us a tandem along with Chris Houle to help provide some stability on our back end."

Hurme, 31-year-old, was selected to the All-Star Second Team of the International Hockey League in 2000 when he played for the Grand Rapids Griffins. While he playing for the Griffins, he went 35-15-4, 2.18 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.

The Inferno will host the Charlotte Checkers on Friday, January 27th and the Gwinnett Gladiators on Saturday, January 28th both at 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling 251-2222 or visiting the Carolina Coliseum Box Office.
