Condors Make it Two in a Row on the Road

January 27, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Kevin St. Jacques' deflection of a Scott Balan shot proved to be the difference as Ryan Munce stopped 44 shots in the Bakersfield Condors' 5-3 victory over the Utah Grizzlies at the "E" Center.

The Condors struck first when Andrew Ianiero left a drop pass in the slot for Joel Irving, who fired a hard slap shot past Utah netminder Justin Eddy. Sean Venedam assisted on the initial pass to Ianiero as the Condors took a 1-0 lead 2:57 into the game.

Utah answered back when Ryan Kinasewich connected in the slot on a one-timer from Louis Dumont with 8:10 left in the period, tying the game at 1-1.

The Grizzlies notched the first power play goal when Ryan Kinasewich pushed a pass from the side of the far post through Ryan Munce's legs and into the net. Dumont and Lou Dimasi were credited with the assists as Utah took the 2-1 advantage.

Bakersfield responded with a power play goal of its own when Kevin St. Jacques sped into the offensive zone on the right wing. St. Jacques pushed a pass to Mike Hofstrand, who quickly fired a wrist shot from the slot over the right shoulder of Eddy and under the crossbar. Reagan Leslie assisted as the Condors tied the game at 2-2 with 2:12 remaining in the opening frame.

The Condors commenced the second period on the power play, as Jason Norrie tapped the rebound from a Mike Hofstrand shot into the net just 65 seconds into the frame to make it 3-2 Bakersfield. Kevin St. Jacques would extend the Condors' lead to 4-2 by deflecting a Scott Balan wrister past the left forearm of Eddy with 1:36 left on the clock until the third period.

Bakersfield connected on another early period goal just 26 seconds into the third when Andrew Ianiero fed Scott Borders at the expirations of a Condors power play. Borders deposited the puck past Eddy giving Bakersfield the 5-2 lead.

Garett Cameron finished off a Louis Dumont one- timer from point-blank range in front of Ryan Munce to bring Utah within 5-3, but the deficit would prove to be to steep as the Condors cruised to the road win.

Ryan Munce earned the win stopping 43 shots on 46 Utah attempts. Justin Eddy was credited with the loss, stopping 18 of 23 Condor shots.

Other notes: Defenseman Scott Basiuk served the first of his two game suspension handed down by the ECHL today. Basiuk will return for Bakersfield's home contest against the Alaska Aces on Tuesday. Sean Venedam extended his point streak to four games in the victory, while Joel Irving extended his own point streak to three.

Bakersfield and Utah square off once again at the "E" Center tomorrow night before the Condors return home on January 31st to host the Alaska Aces. That evening, all college and high school students receive admission for $1.00 by presenting their student ID courtesy of the WB-12 and 106.1 KRAB Radio.
