Steelheads center D'Arcy McConvey scored two goals and added two assists as the Wranglers surrendered a team-record nine goals. Idaho converted on six power plays, the most ever scored in one game against Las Vegas. Wranglers' winger Dan Tudin scored a goal and added two assists in the loss. Idaho improved to 11-1-1 all time at home against Las Vegas. Eight different Steelheads scored in the Idaho win, including former Wrangler Garrett Bembridge. Scott Schoneck, Steve Crampton, Thomas Bellemare, Chris Stanley and Tudin each scored for Las Vegas. The Wranglers will stay in Boise for games on Saturday and Monday night at 6:10 pm (PST).
Dan Hacker, Scott Burt and D'Arcy McConvey powered the Steelheads to three first-period goals. Burt tallied his first goal at 6:41 as Hacker broke through the Las Vegas defense and rifled a shot on net. Wranglers' goalie Marc Magliarditi made the save, but Burt tipped in the rebound to give Idaho a 1-0 lead. Hacker set up the second goal of the night at 14:10 of the first period. The Idaho rookie sent a cross-ice pass to Kurt MacSweyn who redirected the puck upstairs for his third goal of the season and a 2-0 Steelheads lead. Idaho's captain, D'Arcy McConvey snapped a shot from the left-wing circle, beating Magliarditi on the stick side for his 17th goal of the season. McConvey's power-play goal gave the Steelheads a 3-0 with 13 seconds remaining in the first period.
In the second period the two teams combined for eight goals. The Wranglers got on the board as Chris Stanley tallied his 19th goal of the season just 34 second into the middle period. Idaho then scored four straight goals to build a 7-1 lead. McConvey scored his second of the night at 2:13 and the set up Garrett Gembridge's 33rd of the season at 4:45 to build the Idaho lead to 5-1. Steelheads defensemen Tyler Kindle and Jared Bourassa each added power-play goals to make it a 7-1 Idaho lead. The Wranglers answered back with three straight goals before the end of the period as Dan Tudin scored his 16th goal of the season at 16:42 to trim the Steelheads lead to 7-2. Winger Steve Crampton added a power-play goal at 18:52 to cut the lead to 7-3. Thirty-seconds later, Thomas Bellermare's sixth goal of the season sent the Wranglers to the locker room down 7-4.
In the third period, Mike Stutzel and David Bararuk added power-plays in the third to push the Steelheads lead to 9-4. Las Vegas defenseman Scott Schoneck scored a late goal for the final score of 9-5.
Prior to the game, Las Vegas added emergency back-up goaltender T.R. Kirkman. The Boise native will fill in as the back up for the weekend due to Mike McKenna's recall to Norfolk of the American Hockey League.
