Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Bulls first baseman Austin Shenton smashed a home run for the third straight game, shortstop Tristan Gray went deep and drove in four runs, and starting pitcher Taj Bradley fired five and two-thirds scoreless frames, while second baseman Jonathan Aranda's walk-off eleventh-inning single gave Durham wild 10-9 victory over the Memphis Redbirds on Thursday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
After both teams scored single tallies in the tenth, the Redbirds grabbed a 9-8 advantage in the eleventh. Pinch hitters Vidal Brujan and Ruben Cardenas each drew walks to load the bases for CF Raimel Tapia, who lined a game-tying RBI single into left-center. Aranda would then then come through with more heroics as the very next batter, smashing a single to the right-center field wall to give Durham the victory.
Shenton and Gray both blasted two-run shots in the fourth to start the scoring and put the Bulls ahead 4-0. Memphis would cut the lead to three with a run in the seventh before a five-run eighth put them ahead 6-4. Durham would answer back, however, with a three-run bottom of the eighth highlighted by Gray's two-run single to center to give the Bulls a 7-6 advantage. The Redbirds would then plate another tally in the ninth, however, to force the extra frame.
Aranda (3-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI) and C Alex Jackson (3-5, 1 R, 1 2B,1 RBI) each recorded a game-high three hits, with Gray (2-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI), Tapia (2-6, 1 RBI), and 3B Osleivis Basabe (2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI) posting multi-hit efforts as well. Shenton, meanwhile, has now homered in each of his last three games with the Bulls dating back to the beginning of this series on August 8.
Bradley (5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 SO) did not factor in the final decisions despite a strong outing, fanning eight batters over his 5.2 scoreless frames. Durham catcher Nick Dini (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER), meanwhile, earned the victory as the second of two Bulls position players to pitch in the contest, yielding a lone unearned run in the final inning. Redbirds reliever Chris Roycraft (0.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are scheduled to continue their six-game series at the DBAP on Friday night, with first pitch set for 6:35pm.
Tickets for that game and all 2023 Durham Bulls home games are available, and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com, or by calling 919.956.BULL.
