Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of defensive errors by Indianapolis in the sixth inning led to two unearned runs that gave the Louisville Bats a 4-2 lead and eventual 6-3 win over the Indians on Tuesday night.

With two outs and one runner on in a tie ballgame, consecutive errors by Oneil Cruz and Ji-Hwan Bae gifted two runs to the Bats (9-16). Louisville added two more insurance runs in the seventh to put away the Indians (13-11).

The Indians plated the first run of the game in the second inning on a line-drive single by Travis Swaggerty that scored Canaan Smith-Njigba.

Louisville then took its first lead in the fifth on a JT Riddle leadoff home run and bases-loaded infield single off the bat of Albert Almora Jr. Michael Perez hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the frame to tie the game, 2-2.

Right-hander Matt Eckelman (L, 0-1) pitched an inning in relief and yielded the two decisive unearned runs on one hit and one walk with one punchout.

After the Bats scored two runs in their third consecutive inning, Bae cut the deficit to three runs with an RBI single.

Right-hander Zack Godley (W, 1-0) earned the win with 2.0 innings of relief. He gave up one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

The Indians and Bats continue their series tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 PM ET. RHP Jerad Eickhoff (1-1, 7.20) will take the bump for the Indians against RHP Luis Castillo (0-0, 0.00) who will make a major league rehab start for Louisville.
