Louisville Bats News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Bats' pitching staff was overpowering in a 6-3 victory over Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field on Tuesday evening. Six Louisville pitchers combined to punch out 13 Indy hitters, with each hurler notching at least one K in the team effort.

The Indians struck first in the bottom of the second inning, after a single, a balk, and another base hit from Travis Swaggerty plated the first run of the ball game. Those two hits would prove to be the only two for the tribe throughout the first four innings.

In the fifth inning, Louisville got on the board as JT Riddle tied the game with a solo homer. After loading the bases, Albert Almora Jr. singled, but Louisville was only able to go station-to-station and take a 2-1 lead before Indy reliever Shea Murray pitched out of the bases-loaded jam, allowing minimal damage.

The Bats didn't hold the lead for long, as Swaggerty struck again in the bottom half of the fifth, this time scoring the tying run on a Michael Perez double.

The sixth inning started with two quick outs for Indy, but Louisville was able to capitalize on a couple of defensive miscues and a little bit of two-out magic to plate two runs, thanks to an infield, two-RBI hit from Lorenzo Cedrola.

Following another Almora knock in the seventh inning, Trey Amburgey widened the gap with a two-run shot to extend the lead to 6-2, and pushed the Bats to their fifth multi-homerun game of the season.

Indy was able to get one run back in the bottom half of the seventh after Ji-Hwan Bae pushed a seeing-eye, RBI-single just past the diving glove of Louisville shortstop Taylor Motter, but nothing else as the Bats bullpen was able to retire the final seven hitters of the game, securing Louisville's ninth win of the season.

Louisville and Indianapolis will play game two of the six-game series tomorrow afternoon at Victory Field with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Right-handed rehabber Luis Castillo (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Bats while Indy will give the ball to righty Jerad Eickhoff (1-1, 7.20).
