Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

TOLEDO, Ohio - Jack Combs scored two goals and added an assist to help the Cincinnati Cyclones (18-8-1-1) dominate the Toledo Walleye (8-15-3-0) by a 7-3 final score in front of 8,200 at Huntington Center on Saturday night. It was the fourth consecutive game that the Cyclones had eclipsed the five-goal plateau and the second straight night they've tallied seven times.

The Cyclones were able to pull out to a 3-0 lead for the fifth time this season as Logan Shaw, Paul Crowder, and Trevor Lewis all lit the lamp in a 10-minute span beginning at the 5:52 mark. Shaw's goal came on the power play, giving Cincinnati a man-advantage marker in two straight games. And thanks to 12 saves at the other end by Rob Madore (W, 32 saves, 9-3-0) and a pair of penalty kills, Ben Simon's team lead by three at the first intermission.

The offensive trend continued for the Cyclones early in the middle frame; just 2:58 in, Jonathan Hazen caught a great pass from the corner and slid home his fifth goal of the season through the legs of Hannu Toivonen (L, 30 saves, 3-7-0) to make it a 4-0 game. Toledo temporarily stopped the bleeding at 5:52 when Alden Hirschfeld one-timed a puck past Madore to put his team on the board. However, Jack Combs helped Cincinnati regain the four-goal cushion when a loose puck laid on the Walleye goal line just long enough for the fifth-year pro to tap in his fourth of the year. Then, during a five-on-three Cyclones power play, Combs beat Toivonen with a beautiful wrist shot from the right circle to make it 6-1 through 40 minutes of play.

The Walleye finally cashed in on a power play midway through the third period when David Gilbert came up with a loose puck in the crease and slammed in his fifth goal of the season at 9:35 to make it 6-2. Anthony Luciani, who had already extended his point-scoring streak to four games, added another Cincinnati goal at 11:04 to run the score to 7-2. In the final second of regulation, Toledo's Maxim Shalunov barely beat the horn and Madore to cap off the night and sealed a 7-3 win for the Cyclones. With Saturday night's offensive showing, the Cyclones have now posted five goals or more in four straight games for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
