
Jakaitis Blanks Nailers on Holiday Holdover Troops Night

Greenville, S.C. - Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis stopped all 21 shots faced to record his second shutout of the season as the South Carolina Stingrays (21-5-1-2) blanked the Wheeling Nailers (14-9-0-5) 3-0 on Holiday Holdover Troops Night presented by the USO and Verizon at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night.
Stingrays forward Luke Greiner kicked off the scoring early in the first period with a shorthanded goal slipping a shot between the legs of Nailers goaltender Alex Westlund (L, 26 saves on 28 shots) from between the faceoff circles at 4:10. Forward Igor Gongalsky picked up the lone assist. Defenseman Ryan Grimshaw made it a 2-0 Stingrays lead on the power play slapping a pass from defenseman Jeremy Price over the glove of Westlund from the left-wing circle. Gongalsky added the second assist.
Forward Peter Boyd sealed the victory with an empty-tally with 17 seconds remaining in the contest. Grimshaw netted the single assist. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while the Nailers went 0-for-2.
