Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Ian McKenzie's goal with 4:23 to play broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Cincinnati Cyclones a 4-3 victory over the Johnstown Chiefs on Monday night. Olivier Latendresse netted a goal and an assist in the triumph for the Cyclones-running his point streak to 16 games.
With eleven players suffering from flu-like symptoms, the Cyclones used a patchwork lineup to defeat the North Division leaders.
For the fifth time this season, the Cyclones netted three goals in a period, opening a 3-0 edge at the first intermission. Mark Van Guilder started the fireworks 12:34 into the frame, tallying his fifth score of the campaign from Olivier Latendresse and Frederic St. Denis. The lead expanded to 2-0 at 16:08 when Latendresse fired home his ECHL-leading 18th goal of the year from Van Guilder and Barret Ehgoetz. Less than a minute later, at 17:01, Ben McLeod picked up his third score from rookie Ryan Toomey, a rookie playing in his professional debut. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 18-6.
Johnstown scored both goals in the middle period, the first coming 10:30 in, when Sean Berkstresser collected his second score of the season. Less than two minutes later, Petr Pohol netted his tenth goal of the season on the powerplay at 12:22. The Chiefs won the shots battle, 13-9, in the period.
The Chiefs tied the game at three apiece, when Pohl tallied his second of the night and eleventh of the season at 8:49 on the powerplay. Cincinnati scored the final goal of the night when Ian McKenzie fired home his second of the year from the low slot at 15:37 from Latendresse and Ehgoetz.
