Bakersfield Takes Two in Alaska, Returns Home this Weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors are currently in the midst of a five-game road trip, with games in Victoria (Tuesday) and Fresno (Friday) before returning to home ice. They host the Las Vegas Wranglers this Saturday at noon at Rabobank Arena.

The Condors are 8-10-3 on the season, 4th place in the Pacific Division with 19 points. Their two wins against Alaska extended their road unbeaten streak to seven games (5-0-2), before bowing to the first place Aces Saturday night. Bakersfield leads this week's home opponent, Las Vegas, by one point in the standings, and trails 3rd place Stockton by one point.

WEEK IN REVIEW (Home team in CAPS): Wednesday, Dec. 3 Condors 3 vs. ALASKA 2 Bakersfield fell behind 1-0 in the first but bounced back with goals from F Dale Reinhardt and D Kevin Truelson (making his 2008-09 season debut). A third period tally by F Andrew Ianiero (right) snapped a 2-2 tie and served as the eventual game winner. G Ryan Nie made 26 saves to carry Bakersfield to the win in Alaska.

Friday, Dec. 5 Condors 4 vs. ALASKA 3

The Condors extended their road unbeaten streak to seven games with a 4-3 triumph in Anchorage. LW Chad Painchaud had 2g-2a in the game, including a power play tally in the opening minute of the third period that gave the Condors a 3-1 lead. Newcomer F Brett Pilkington had 1g-1a in his Condors debut, and D Kevin Truelson scored for the second straight game.

Saturday, Dec. 6 ALASKA 6 vs. Condors 0

The Aces responded strong in the series finale, avenging back-to-back losses to the Condors with a 6-0 win. G Chris Holt made 32 saves for his first shutout of the season and LW Lance Galbraith scored twice for Alaska. G David McKee suffered the loss for the Condors, and G Yutaka Fukufuji played the third period in relief.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

The Condors are 2nd in the ECHL in average attendance at 6,506 per game. D Kevin Truelson (right) had a goal in each of first two games this season. He had 1g-1a in his season debut Wednesday night. Rookie F Dale Reinhardt had his four-game point streak snapped on Friday. He put up 2g-3a in those four contests. F Matt Pope, among all ECHL rookies, is tied for 2nd in goals (11) and tied for 10th in points (19).

The Condors had a string of six consecutive games decided by one-goal from Nov. 21 - Dec. 5, during which they went 2-2-2. Bakersfield has been in 13 one-goal games out of their first 21 games played, 3rd in the ECHL. Only Fresno (15) and Ontario (14) has played more. Bakersfield has trailed after two periods only twice in 12 road games. Fresno (8) and Victoria (7) are the only National Conference teams with more road victories than the Condors (6).

D Andrew Thomas and F Matt Caruana remain in the American Hockey League with the Iowa Chops, the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks. LW Mark Derlago remains in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose. LW Bobby Bolt remains on the 7-IR and is eligible to be activated. G Ryan Nie is on the 3-IR and is eligible to be activated Tuesday. C Dave Bonk remains on the 30-IR and is eligible to be activated on Dec. 22.

AFTER ROAD TRIP, CONDORS RETURN HOME FOR SCOOBY-D00: The Condors continue their five-game road trip with in Victoria on Dec. 9 (7:05 p.m.) and Fresno on Dec. 12 (7:35 p.m.). All Condors games are broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230, B2 Networks and Bakersfieldcondors.com, and be sure to tune in 15 minutes before the opening draw for Condors Countdown.

The Condors return to the Mercy & Memorial Hospitals Home Ice at Rabobank Arena on Saturday, Dec. 13 to host the Las Vegas Wranglers. Scooby-Doo (right), presented by Bright House Networks, 101.5 KGFM and Bakersfield Marriott, will be at the game to meet fans and pose for pictures in the Condors Photo Booth. Doors open at 11 a.m., the puck drops at noon.

Individual game tickets are on sale and may be purchased through the Rabobank Arena Box Office, which is open from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday with extended hours on game days.
