Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, has acquired rookie center Brandon Scero (SEER-oh) from the Elmira Jackals in exchange for future considerations, Thunder head coach Chris Cichocki announced today.
In addition, it was announced defenseman Ryan Constant and left wing Stephane Goulet (GOO-lay) have been recalled from the Thunder to Springfield.
"With our numbers down, we're looking for a player who can score and be an effective offensive presence for us," said Cichocki. "Blair Nicholson (Thunder director of scouting) and I have heard great things about his skill set and he'll receive every opportunity to play a significant role in our offense."
Scero, 22, has skated in 15 combined games this season for the Utah Grizzlies and Elmira Jackals, scoring six points (3g-3a) while posting 18 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 190-pound forward made his ECHL debut last season for the Mississippi Sea Wolves, posting seven points (4g-3a) and two penalty minutes in just nine games.
The Canton, Mich. native spent four years (2004-08) of his college hockey career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (NCAA), scoring 114 points (55g-59a) and posting 146 penalty minutes in 147 games for the Mavericks. Scero matched his career-high 34-point total as a 2006-07 junior and 2007-08 senior. Previously, Scero competed for two years (2002-04) with the U.S. National (Under-18) Team where he compiled 43 points (28g-15a) and 42 penalty minutes in 68 career junior games.
Constant, 23, has skated in 20 games for the Thunder this season, ranking second in scoring for the club's defensemen with six points (3g-3a) while amassing 32 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound defenseman was signed to an AHL contract with Springfield before the 2008-09 season and has appeared in 156 career games with the Thunder and Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL and the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL, scoring 51 points (9g-42a) while posting 193 penalty minutes.
Goulet, 22, has scored 80 points (34g-46a) in 137 career games with Stockton of the ECHL and Springfield and Grand Rapids of the AHL. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward has skated in 12 games this season for the Thunder, amassing nine points (3g-6a) and 18 penalty minutes.
Goulet was selected by the Oilers in the seventh round (208th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and has skated in 93 career games for the Thunder, ranking fourth on the club's career scoring list with 63 points (24g-39a) while posting 86 penalty minutes.
Constant and Goulet should be available to dress for Springfield on Wednesday, when the Falcons visit the Worcester Sharks at 4:00 p.m. PT.
The Thunder return to play on Friday with a 6:05 p.m. road game against the Utah Grizzlies at The E-Center.
