Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Cincinnati, Oh. - The Johnstown Chiefs had their three-game winning streak snapped by the Cincinnati Cyclones as they took a 4-3 loss on Monday night.

The three-game series finale did not start the way that Johnstown wanted to, and the Chiefs found themselves trailing 3-0 after 20 minutes. Cincinnati took the lead on a Mark Van Guilder goal at 12:34 and added to it with markers from Olivier Latendresse and Ben McLeod.

The Chiefs took the first intermission to regroup, and they put that time to very good use. Johnstown came out to score twice in the second to get back within one goal. Sean Berkstresser got the black and gold on the board at 10:30 with a wrist shot that beat Kyle Gajewski to the blocker side. Mike Knight caused a turnover at the Cincinnati line and fed Berkstresser for his sixth assist. Petr Pohl got the Chiefs within one with a power play goal at 12:22. Bryan Marshall won a faceoff back to Jon Landry who hit Pohl in the high slot, and he beat Gajewski through the five hole.

Johnstown rode the momentum from their strong second period to a tying goal by Pohl, also on the power play, in at 8:49 of the third. The Chiefs earned a four-minute advantage as Donny Grover took two for tripping and two for unsportsmanlike conduct. Pohl carried the puck through traffic in the slot to the right wing before lifting a shot past Gajewski for his eleventh of the season. The Chiefs couldn't find the go-ahead goal, though, and Cincinnati's Ian McKenzie scored the eventual game winner at 15:37.

Ian Keserich made 34 saves on 38 chances, but was saddled with the loss, while the Chiefs' power play went 2-for-4 on the night.

Mark your calendars! The Chiefs are back on home ice Wednesday, December 10 to take on the Elmira Jackals at 7:05 PM. The Chiefs will be hosting Ladies' Night with booths set up throughout the arena to cater to their female fans. Great seats are still available, but going fast. You can get yours by calling 814-536-5156 or 1-800-SLAPSHOT.
