BOMBERS NOTES

IN-STATE DEFEAT: The Bombers fell to their in-state rival, the Cincinnati Cyclones, on Wednesday night 3-1 at US Bank Arena. Joe Van Culin scored the lone goal for Dayton on the power play at the start of the third period, assisted by Justin Bowers and Jim Henkemeyer. However, it was not enough to fend off the Cyclones, who scored a pair of goals in the final period of the game. Goaltender Tyler Plante finished the night 26 of 29.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE 35 SECONDS MAKE: The visiting Wheeling Nailers defeated the Bombers 5-2 Friday night at the Nutter Center off a pair of shorthanded goals in the second period. The Nailers all but had a shutout locked up until the final minute and a half when the Bombers got on the board from Jarret Lukin, assisted by Dan Riedel and Nino Musitelli. Then 35 seconds later rookie Ben Geelan scored his first of the year from Christian Gaudet. The Bombers were 8 of 9 on the penalty kill. Tyler Plante, making his seventh consecutive start, was 17 of 22.

REDEMPTION SONG: The Bombers hammered the Wheeling Nailers with five first period goals en route to an 8-1 victory on Saturday night. Twelve different Bombers players picked up at least one point in the game and Christian Gaudet led the team with four points (1g,3a). Also scoring for Dayton were Jarret Lukin (2g), Brock Wilson, Danny LaPointe, Ben Geelan, Tyler Wooddisse and Ryan Smyth. Tyler Plante went 46 of 47, earning his fourth win of the season.

SEASON RECORDS: The Bombers broke the following season records in Saturday's win over Wheeling: goals per game (8), goals per period (5), margin of victory (7) and shots allowed (47).

YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION: Enforcer Britt Dougherty made his season debut on Friday night and within 8 minutes let everyone know what they'd been missing. The Saskatchewan native tussled with the Nailers' Cedric Bernier three times throughout the game, bringing the fans to their feet for the 2007-08 Fan Favorite.

THE MORE THE MERRIER: Six different Bombers players had multi-point games on Saturday against Wheeling. Christian Gaudet's four point night was a career high, as was Ben Geelan's three point game (1g,2a). It was the fifth multi-point game of the year for Jarret Lukin, fourth for rookie Nino Musitelli and second for Ryan Smyth.

FREE PASS PAYS OFF: Danny LaPointe was awarded a penalty shot on Saturday after being taken down on a shorthanded breakaway. LaPointe successfully made the shot past Wheeling's Curtis Darling for his third shorthanded goal of the year, which currently leads the ECHL.

DEFENSE, OFFENSE, WHO CARES: The Bombers defense is producing on the offensive end as of late. Following Wednesday's goal in Cincinnati and an assist in Saturday night's game, defenseman Joe Van Culin's point total for the season increased to 11 (3g,8a). The Minnesota native joined team captain Greg Labenski who also has 11 points, in the league's Top 15 in scoring amongst defensemen.

GROWING ROOTS: Goalie Tyler Plante made his eighth consecutive start on Saturday in net for the Bombers. The Florida Panthers prospect improved his GAA to 2.69 after his 46 of 47 save performance against the Nailers, raking 17th in the league.

GOLD STARS ALL AROUND: The Bombers have proven to be on their best behavior this season. Dayton has the league's lowest average in penalty minutes per game with 16.70. Although they don't have the fewest total minutes in the league, the Bombers' 384 PIM is a stark contrast to their opponents combined 455.

HOME SWEET HOME: There will be nine home games played by the Bombers in the month of December, the most of any month this season. With only two road games on the schedule, in Cincinnati no less, the Bombers will finally get a chance to settle in. Of the 11 total games played in December, the Bombers will only face four teams: Wheeling, Reading, Charlotte and Cincinnati.

SCOUTING REPORT: The Bombers are 3-0-0 this season against Reading and have outscored the Royals 12-7 thus far. Most recently the Bombers took a pair of games from the Royals over Thanksgiving weekend, winning 3-2 on November 29 in a comeback effort, and 4-3 on November 30.

TEAM LEADERS: The following Bombers lead the team in these statistical categories:

Goals: Dan Riedel - 10

Assists: Justin Bowers - 14

Points: Justin Bowers & Dan Riedel - 22

PIM: Brock Wilson - 38

The bears were taken to Dayton Children's Hospital this afternoon by Justin Bowers, Britt Dougherty, Jim Henkemeyer, Nino Musitelli, Nathan Schwartzbauer and Tom Zanoski for distribution, as well as to local police and fire departments.
