Coyotes acquire Perrault from Anaheim, assign to Rampage

SAN ANTONIO (Mar. 9, 2006) - The Phoenix Coyotes today announced that they have acquired center Joel Perrault from the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in exchange for defenseman Sean O'Donnell. Perrault was immediately assigned to the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL), the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate.

The 6-foot-1, 197-pound Perrault has played in 25 games this season with Anaheim's top minor league affiliate, the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL). He has collected 12-12-24 and 20 penalty minutes (PIM) for Portland this season. Perrault has also played in three games this season with Augusta of the ECHL, recording 4-2-6 and 2 PIM.

Perrault registered 28 points in each of his first two professional seasons with Cincinnati (AHL) in 2003-04 and 2004-05. Prior to turning pro, the Quebec, Montreal native had an impressive career with Baie-Comeau of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In his final season with Baie-Comeau, Perrault led the entire QMJHL in scoring with 116 points and ranked second among all QMJHL players in goal scoring with 51 goals in 70 games in 2002-03. He earned QMJHL First All-Star Team and Canadian Major Junior First All-Star Team honors in 2003.

The 22-year-old Perrault was originally drafted by Anaheim in the 5th round (137th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

In his first season as a Coyote, O'Donnell collected 1-7-8 and 121 PIM in 57 games. The 34-year-old blueliner joined the Coyotes on July 6, 2004 when he signed as a free agent. In his 11-year NHL career, O'Donnell has played in 750 games with Los Angeles, Minnesota, New Jersey, Boston and Phoenix, collecting 22-126-148 and 1,356 PIM. The Ottawa, Ontario native was originally drafted by Buffalo in the 6th round (123rd overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.
