Countdown to Face-Off: K-Wings at Nailers

March 20, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Tonight will be a pivotal game in the playoff hopes of both the Kalamazoo Wings and the Wheeling Nailers, as the teams square off in an ECHL Eastern Conference Clash. This evening will be the second of three meetings between the teams. Kalamazoo is 0-1-0-0 against Wheeling this season.

Kalamazoo will look to get back on track after dropping back-to-back games, which includes their worst setback of the season, a 9-2 decision to the Greenville Road Warriors. With 69 points, Kalamazoo is in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, six points behind the eighth place Toledo Walleye.

Snapping a three-game losing streak on St. Patrick's Day with a 3-2 victory over the Walleye, the Nailers return home for a game before they return to the road for three straight. With 67 points, Wheeling trails Toledo by eight points for eighth place in the conference.

Power Outage

Kalamazoo's power-play has struggled of late. The K-Wings have scored one power-play goal in their last 20 chances (5%) and are 4-for-41(9.4%) with a man-advantage in the month of March.

Rough Outing

While the nine goals surrendered by the K-Wings last Sunday is the most they have surrendered this season, it isn't the most they have allowed since joining the ECHL. The most goals surrendered by the K-Wings in a single ECHL contest were 10 against the Wheeling Nailers on 02/06/10 in a 10-1 loss at the WesBanco Arena.
