Gladiators Win 5th Straight, Knock off Cyclones 5-3

The Gwinnett Gladiators (41-25-2-1) scored three third period goals to post a 5-3 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones (40-19-5-3) on Wednesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The win was the Gladiators fifth straight as Gwinnett remains in first place in the ECHL's South Division with 85 points.

Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead on the Gladiators just 4:15 into the first period. Mathieu Aubin found a rebound in the right wing circle and ripped it past an outstretched Louis Domingue for the marker. Taylor Ellington added an assist on the goal.

Gwinnett stormed back and tied the game at one, less than two minutes later on Joey Haddad's 16th goal of the season. Haddad took a rink-wide pass from Justin Bowers and clanked the puck off the post behind Michael Houser for the goal. Ryan Donald collected an assist on the goal for Gwinnett at 6:03 of the first period.

The Cyclones regained the lead on the power play with 2:05 left in the first period. David Pacan found a loose puck in the slot and slipped it past Domingue for the goal. Josh McFadden and Dan Eves had the helpers on the marker.

Doug Jones equalized the game at two in the second period with his 21st goal of the season. Jones ripped a snapshot from the blue line that ricocheted off Cincinnati defensemen past Houser for the marker. Bowers collected his second assist of the game on the power play goal. Haddad added an assist on the marker at 7:35 of the period.

Cincinnati again regained the lead. The second power play goal by Cincinnati midway through the third period gave the Cyclones a 3-2 lead on Gwinnett. Aubin added his second goal of the night as he redirected a shot from the point through traffic past Domingue. David Pacan and Eves collected the assists on the goal.

The Gladiators stormed back with the next three goals over the final eight minutes to post their fifth consecutive win. Justin Bowers equalized the game on the power play at 12:01 of the third period. Jones added an assist while Ryan Ginand collected his first point, an assist, with Gwinnett since he was acquired from Orlando.

Ryan Donald notched his 4th goal of the game as he beat Houser through traffic from the left wing point for the game winning goal. Ginand has his second helper of the game while Justin Weller also notched an assist on the goal with 2:09 left in the third period.

Andy Brandt put the game away with an empty net goal at 19:37 of the third period. Haddad had his second assist of the night on the goal.

Domingue finished with 24 saves in the win for Gwinnett. Both teams went 2-for-5 on the power play in the contest.

Gwinnett is back in action on Friday as they travel to South Carolina to take on the Stingrays at 7:05 p.m.
