Reading Royals News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, defeated the Fort Wayne Komets, 8-2, at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. For the first time in team's twelve year history, the Royals exploded for six goals in a single period, as the team shot six for ten in the first period in the first trip ever to Fort Wayne. The win served to clinch the Atlantic Division Title for the Royals.
The first period explosion was ignited 2:26 into the game on Yannick Tifu's twenty-sixth of the year; but the power play provided the big blow as Reading hit pay dirt on all three first period opportunities with the man advantage-which included a period ending bullet from Stan Galiev for his thirteenth PPG of the year. Ten different players factored in the Royals' scoring-seven of them had multipoint performances, including Nikita Kashirsky (1g-3a). Fort Wayne broke up Riley Gill's bid for a third shutout in ten games with Reading 5:26 into the third-and the Royals took him out late in the period when things got chippy around the net-but Gill made 26 saves-some of them in dramatic fashion-to his eighth win (8-2-0-0).
The Royals continue a four game road trip through the North Division on Friday (March 22 @ 8:15 pm et) at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana, against the Evansville Icemen. The Game Day Broadcast on Wednesday starts at 7:35 pm et on CBS Sports Radio (1240 am and 98.5 fm) with the pre-game warm-up show brought to you by Steve Moyer Subaru. As with all Royals' road games this season, Friday's game will be televised locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania, courtesy of Boscov's Travel and Apple Vacations. Royals multi-game flex plans for the 2012-13 season presented by Steve Moyer Subaru are available at 610-898-7825 and through the Royals website: www.royalshockey.com.
