Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, N.Y. - March 20, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals kicked off a stretch of four home games in five days with a 7-1 win over the Trenton Titans on Wednesday night. Jordan Pietrus scored Elmira's first hat trick of the season and Rob Bellamy posted a season-high five points (2G, 3A) in the victory that improved Elmira's record to 36-23-7.

Elmira wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the first with the heavy lifting coming from Pietrus. He scored his first of the night, 19th of the season, just 1:28 into the game and followed that up 2:54 later with his 20th. His linemates chipped in on both goals with Bellamy assisting on each and Kevin Harvey adding a helper on the opening score. That early burst was only a precursor to the big surge. Chaz Johnson began a barrage of three goals in 2:43 with a power play strike at 16:45. Harvey was next up as he finished off a pass from Pietrus at the side of the net, and Bellamy capped it with 32 seconds left in the period on an unassisted strike. Harvey's goal chased Trenton starter Brooks Ostergard who stopped three of the seven shots he faced. Cal Heeter worked the remainder of the game.

Not content with their five goal lead, the Jackals pressed to the tune of 19 second period shots and earned a pair of goals for their efforts. Bellamy was sprung on a rush up the left wing on feeds by Harvey and Ryan Palmer, and he sneaked a shot through Heeter's pads for his fifth point of the game. After 30 different two goal efforts by Elmira skaters this season, Pietrus finally took it to the next level at 16:43 of the second period on a wrist shot from the doorstep. The hat trick was the first of his pro career. Ian Keserich stopped 21 shots through 40 minutes of play to help Elmira take a seven goal lead into the third.

The Jackals didn't bring as much offensive pressure in the third and managed just five shots on goal. Trenton, meanwhile, didn't pack it in and sent nine shots Keserich's way. One of the final ones, a deflection by Jesse Todd, was able to best the Jackals' netminder and break up his shutout bid. Todd's goal was his third of the season against Elmira and came with only 2:49 to play.

Keserich earned his sixth win of the season for Elmira with 29 saves. The Jackals went 1-for-1 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
