March 20, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fort Wayne Komets News Release
Fort Wayne, IN ---The Komets announced Wednesday that defenseman Mathieu Gagnon has been added to the roster and is expected to be in the lineup Wednesday night when the Komets host the Reading Royals at 7:30pm. Gagnon becomes the second amateur addition to the lineup in the past week after the Komets signed forward J.P. Labardo to an amateur tryout agreement prior to Sunday's 8-5 St. Patrick's Day win against Evansville. Labardo contributed in the victory scoring his first pro goal while directing seven shots at the IceMen net.
Gagnon, 20, was drafted in round 10 by Victoriaville in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Entry Draft in 2009. The defenseman completed three full seasons of play this year with Shawinigan of the QMJHL. Gagnon also shared this past season with Whitecourt of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) appearing in 35 games and leading the Wolverines with 259 penalty minutes while ranking second among defensemen with 16 assists and 19 points.
In additional Komet player movement, center Colin Chaulk has been placed on 21-day injured reserve. 2012-13 is Chaulk's 15th pro year and 10th season with the Komets. The Toronto, Ontario native has appeared in 28 games with the Komets this season scoring two goals and 22 assists. Chaulk also serves as assistant coach to head coach Al Sims.
After the Komets host Reading Wednesday, they will travel to Elmira, New York for back-to-back games at First Arena in downtown Elmira this Friday and Saturday at 7:05 each night. Both games will be webcast free at www.komets.com Xfinity KometCast and broadcast on Fort Wayne radio on WOWO AM 1190 and FM 92.3 with Bob Chase calling the play-by-play in his 60th season behind the Komet microphone.
