Clones Set for Three-Game Weekend Homestand

January 19, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

The Cyclones snapped a three-game losing skid with a win on Sunday afternoon in Toledo. The win sets the stage for a re-match with the Storm on Friday night at U.S. Bank Arena. After the showdown with the Storm, the Clones will brawl with the Bullies on Saturday and Sunday. Before the win in Toledo on Sunday, the Clones had lost at home to Peoria on Tuesday and dropped two in a row at Wheeling.

Game Recaps

Tuesday, January 13-Peoria 3 at Cincinnati 1

The Clones fell to 1-4 at home this year vs. the Rivermen with a loss last Tuesday. All of the game's scoring occurred in the second period. Peoria captain Trevor Baker started the R-Men off with his 13th goal of the season 2:52 into the second. Mike Hanson would tie the game for the Clones as he scored for the second consecutive game. With the game even at one, Clone killer Randy Rowe scored just two minutes after Hanson. Rowe's goal was his 24th of the season, ten of which have come vs. the Clones. Brendon Brooks would add an insurance marker in the 3-1 win.

Friday, January 16-Cincinnati 1 at Wheeling 4

The Clones scored first on Terry Marchant's 11th marker of the year 12:52 into the first. Unfortunately for the Clones, they wouldn't score again. Wheeling tied the game in the second on Eddie Pershin's ninth goal of the season. The Nailers controlled the third as Alex Rouleau scored the game winner 8:30 into the period. Jason Jaffray would add two insurance goals to push his total to 22 markers on the season.

Saturday, January 17-Cincinnati 4 at Wheeling 5

A gritty Clones squad gave the ECHL's best team all they could handle on Saturday but came up one goal short. The Clones jumped to a 2-0 lead on goals by Terry Marchant and Richard Naumann. Naumann's marker was his first in a Clones sweater. The high-flying Nailers would tie the game before the first period was over on goals by Steve Crampton and Bogdan Rudenko. Tom Rouleau reclaimed the lead for the Clones with a power-play marker halfway through the second period. The Nailers would score twice before the period ended to take the lead for the first time. Crampton scored his second of the evening at the 12:48 mark of the second. Jason Jaffray burned the Clones again for his 23rd goal of the season with 3:33 left in the second. In the third, Brendon Hodge scored to give the Nailers three unanswered goals and a 5-3 lead. On the ensuing faceoff, Naumann scored for the second time on the evening to pull the Clones within one. That was as close as the Clones would get as the Nailers improved to 3-2-0 this year vs. Cincinnati.

Sunday, January 18-Cincinnati 2 at Toledo 1

The Clones continued their domination of the Storm with a 2-1 win on Sunday. With the win, the Clones improve to 4-0-1 vs. Toledo this season. Dustin Kingston scored the game's first goal 2:46 into the second period. The Storm would tie the game with 8:54 left in the period on a goal by Chris Gignac. Terry Marchant scored the game-winner in the third to break the Clones' three-game winless skid. Kingston assisted on Marchant's goal to earn second star honors in his first game vs. his former team. Randy Petruk took home first star honors after stopping 39 of 40 Toledo shots.
