The Johnstown Chiefs (21-14-4; 43 PTS; T-4th Northern div.) extended their unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1) as they went 1-0-1 last week in two games with the Peoria Rivermen. The Chiefs are currently in a tie for fourth place in the Northern division with the Reading Royals. After Wednesday's ECHL All-Star game, the Chiefs will get back in action Friday night against the Roanoke Express. Saturday night they host Reading, and Sunday afternoon they travel to Toledo to take on the Storm.

GAME #38 (1/16/04) Johnstown 3 – PEORIA 2 Mather Two Goals

The Johnstown Chiefs rallied from a two goal deficit in the third period to beat the Peoria Rivermen 3-2, Friday night at the Peoria Civic Center. After two scoreless periods Peoria scored two quick goals in the third period for a 2-0 lead. The Chiefs answered quickly as the Chiefs scored three goals, two by Shawn Mather, in the final 10:20 of play. P.L. Courchesne also scored for the Chiefs in the contest. Goaltender David Currie posted his fourth straight win making 44 saves.

GAME #39 (1/17/04) PEORIA 1 – Johnstown 0 (SO) Campbell 44 Saves

After 65:00 of scoreless hockey, the Peoria Rivermen picked up an extra point in the standings as they beat the Johnstown Chiefs 1-0 in a shootout Saturday night at Carver Arena. Chiefs goaltender Cory Campbell made 44 saves in the game while Rivermen goaltender Levente Szuper made 34 saves. The Rivermen won the shootout by a score of 3-1.

Friday night the Chiefs will host the Roanoke Express (20-17-2, 42 PTS; 5th Southern Div.) for the first and only meeting this season between the two teams. The Chiefs were 0-0-1 against the Express last season and are 16-20-8 all-time. The Express have lost two straight games and are 3-6-1 in their last ten games.

The Reading Royals (20-12-6, 46 PTS; T-4th Northern div.) come to Johnstown Saturday night for a Northern division game. The Chiefs are 2-2-0 against the Royals this season. Each team has scored only seven goals in the four games. The Royals are currently tied with the Chiefs for fourth place in the division. Reading is currently on a two game winning streak.

The Chiefs close out a "three in three," weekend Sunday afternoon when they visit the Toledo Storm (16-18-4, 36 PTS; 7th Northern div.). The Chiefs are 1-2-1 against the Storm this season and 37-43-1 all-time. The Chiefs are 0-6-0 in their last six games at the Toledo Sports Arena. The Chiefs last win in Toledo came in overtime (2-1) on March 29, 2002.

CHIEFS NOTES:

 Larry Courville's four game scoring streak (1-3-4) came to an end in Saturday's 1-0 shootout loss @ Peoria.

 Head Coach Toby O'Brien, Forward Jason Notermann and goaltender Cory Campbell will represent the Chiefs at Wednesday's ECHL All-Star game in Peoria.

 Jeff Sullivan has recorded at least one penalty in 10 straight games.

 The Chiefs 1-0 shootout loss Saturday night in Peoria was officially recorded as the team's franchise record 5th shutout of the season.

 Shawn Mather has four goals in his last five games.

Community Appearances

January 26th- The Chiefs team will be attending a sneak preview of the movie "Miracle," at the Richland Mall Cinemas. Players will be available for media interviews. The screening begins at 7:00 p.m.

January 28th – Several Chiefs players will be at East Side Elementary School in Johnstown from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. meeting and reading to students.
