LAST WEEK

Tuesday, January 13th INFERNO 7 Greensboro 3

The Greensboro Generals surrendered to the Columbia Inferno 7-3 on Tuesday night in Greensboro, NC. Barrie Moore had one goal and three assists on the night and Chris St. Croix scored one goal and had two assists to lead the Inferno in a divisional win. The Inferno went up 2-0 in the first period with goals by Tim Smith and Paul Cabana. Terry Harrison scored his eighth goal of the season at 5:13 of the second period with assists to Matt Ulwelling and St. Croix. Robin Carruthers scored on the power play, his 20th of the season, from Corey Hessler and Moore at 12:48. Greensboro then scored the next two goals as St. Croix scored at 17:41 as the Inferno led 5-2 at the end of the second period. Alex Burrows scored an unassisted goal to give the Inferno a 6-2 lead at 14:34 of the third period. The Generals scored their third and final goal of the game at 16:33. The Inferno answered back at 17:27 as Moore scored with help from St. Croix and Ulwelling. Josh Blackburn recorded the win for the Inferno stopping 41 of 44 shots.

Friday, January 16th INFERNO 5 South Carolina 3

The Columbia Inferno won a divisional game 5-3 against the South Carolina Stingrays in front of 5,355 fans. South Carolina started the scoring on the power play at 8:52 with a goal by Kevin Spiewak. Columbia scored on the next power play opportunity with a goal by Matt Ulwelling and assists to Sean Owens and Greg Amadio. Going into the second period, Tim Smith scored at 4:02 on the power play with a slapshot off of the face-off from the point from Paul Cabana and Derek Eastman. Cabana scored at 14:16 going top shelf with a shot over goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck's right shoulder. Owens and Robin Carruthers had the assists. The Stingrays then scored their second goal of the game at 9:02 by Ed Courtenay to move with one goal. Alex Burrows scored his 18th goal of the season at 16:44 with help from Eric Labelle. South Carolina's Marty Clapton scored at 9:50 to bring them back to one goal behind but Barrie Moore added the insurance goal at 12:12. Moore's goal came on a 4-on-4 with a left side wrister shot that got by Daubenspeck. Columbia outshot the Stingrays 36-25 and went 2 for 3 on the power play opportunities.

Saturday, January 17th INFERNO 7 Florence 4

The Columbia Inferno played shorthanded tonight against the Florence Pride as they won 7-4 on Saturday night in Florence. Matt Ulwelling scored two unassisted goals in the first period and Paul Cabana recorded his 18th of the season as the Inferno went up 3-1 at the end of the first. Florence scored at the beginning of the second to bring the score within one goal but that didn't stop the Inferno. Barrie Moore scored his 16th of the season and Marc-Andre Roy scored his first professional goal to give the Inferno a 5-2 lead at 7:59. Florence then scored the next two goals to bring them within one goal for the second time of the game. The only scoring in the third period was two goals by the Inferno. Robin Carruthers scored his 21st goal of the season and Derek Eastman added the last goal at 14:39 as the Inferno defeated the Pride and improved their record to 25-11-4. Josh Blackburn stopped 29 of 33 shots to earn his third win in a row.

Sunday, January 18th Inferno 2 GREENSBORO 4

The Columbia Inferno dropped a tough game 4-2 to the Greensboro Generals Sunday afternoon in Columbia. The Inferno opened the scoring at 7:44 with a power play goal by Tim Smith as he scored on the rebound of a Derek Eastman shot. Eric Labelle had the second assist. On a four-minute power play against the Inferno, Greensboro scored two goals to go ahead by one despite Columbia out shooting the Generals 18-7. Greensboro scored on the power play with 8:07 of the second period and the Inferno answered back with a goal as Alex Burrows scored in front of the net. Paul Cabana and Sean Owens had the assists. Goaltender Josh Blackburn was pulled with 1:10 remaining in the third period to add the extra pressure. Greensboro scored an empty net goal with 52 seconds left to seal the game.

The Inferno is 2-0-0 this season and 14-4-1 all-time. Greenville is in last place in the Southern Division with 15 points (6-23-3). Columbia will play the Grrrowl six times this season.

Saturday, January 24th vs. Florence Pride 2:00pm Carolina Coliseum

This is the sixth game this season between the Pride and Inferno. Columbia is 4-1-0 this season and 14-5-3 all-time. The Pride is in seventh place with 33 points (14-19-5).
