Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Idaho held on to top spot in the ECHL's Pacific Division picking up four of a possible six points this past weekend. They recorded a point in a shootout loss against the Long Beach Ice Dogs at home on January 16th (L3-2 SO), two points in a win against the Falcons in Fresno on January 17th (W7-2), and another point against the Ice Dogs at home on January 18th (L3-2 SO).
Idaho will next travel to Anchorage for a two-game set against the Alaska Aces (currently 22-14-7, 47 pts.) on January 23rd and 24th.
RECORD
Idaho begins this week in first place in the ECHL's Pacific Division with 25-11-4, and 54 points (home record 15-4-2, and road record 10-7-2). Las Vegas is second, three points back, with 51 points. Idaho is 6-1-3 in its last 10 games; and is 3-0-2 in its last five.
IDAHO/ECHL ALL-STARS THIS WEEK: Two Idaho Steelheads - (G) Dan Ellis (13-8-1) and (D) David Cornacchia (5 goals, 24 assists, 29 points) have been named to the 2003-04 Par-A-Dice Western Conference All-Star Team. Both have been recently recalled to Idaho's AHL affiliate Utah Grizzlies.
The 2004 Par-A-Dice ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition will be held at the 9,919-seat Carver Arena at Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Illinois. Hosted by the Peoria Rivermen and presented by the Par-A-Dice Hotel & Casino, the Skills Competition will be held at 7 p.m. on January 20 while the 12th Annual ECHL All-Star Game will be played at 7 p.m. on January 21. Selected in the second round (60th overall) by Dallas in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and under NHL contract with the Stars, Ellis is tied for the league high in shootout wins with 3, and tied for sixth in shutouts with 2 (11/07/03 vs CIN, and 1/04/04 @ FRE). Also representing the Steelheads is 23-year-old defenseman David Cornacchia, who is currently ranked 10th in scoring amongst all ECHL defensemen.

1/16/04: LONG BEACH 3 @ IDAHO 2 (SO)
BOISE, Idaho(Ticker) -- Derek Seal scored the decisive shootout goal to lift the Long Beach Ice Dogs over the Idaho Steelheads, 3-2. Seal put the puck past Idaho netminder Blair Allison on the eighth shootout attempt to give Long Beach their fourth shootout win. Darren Partch and Alex Kim each scored a goal in both regulation play and the shootout for the Ice Dogs, who earned their first victory in their last five meetings with the Steelheads (1-3-1). Colin Zulianello made 29 saves and stopped six attempts in the shootout to earn the win. Jeremy Mylymok and Dylan Gyori each scored a goal for Idaho and Allison stopped 18 shots en route to his second shootout loss in his last three starts.
1/17/04: IDAHO 7 @ FRESNO 2
Defenseman Jeremy Mylymok's hat trick led the Idaho Steelheads to a 7-2 victory over the Fresno Falcons. Eleven Idaho players recorded a point on the night, and six players had multiple points in the game. Mylymok scored a power-play goal 8:13 into the first period, snapped a 1-1 tie nearly 10 minutes later and collected his fifth goal of the season midway through the second. Andrei Vasilyev, Miguel Delisle and Lance Galbraith all had three assists for Idaho, which improved to 6-0-1 against Fresno this season. Blair Allison finished with 18 saves in the win. Blair Clarance and Brad Mehalko both scored for the Falcons, who fell to 4-16-3 since November 22. Dave Marlin surrendered five goals on 21 shots for the loss.
1/18/04: LONG BEACH 3 @ IDAHO 2 (SO)
BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Darren Partch scored in the shootout to lead the Long Beach Ice Dogs to a 3-2 victory over the Idaho Steelheads. In the second round, Partch recorded his fourth shootout goal on six attempts this season. In his previous five games vs. Idaho, Partch had four goals and six points. Colin Zulianello finished with 34 saves and turned away all four shootout attempts he faced for the win. Mike Ouellet opened the scoring 3:34 into the contest and Kevin McDonald gave Long Beach a 2-0 lead on a power play 47 seconds into the second period. It was the third win in the last four games for the Ice Dogs. Brett Draney tallied 70 seconds into the second period and Chris Slater tied the score at 2-2 for the Steelheads, who lost in regulation for the first time in eight games (5-1-2). Blair Allison finished with 35 saves in the loss.
IN THE NET: Goaltender Dan Ellis, currently in AHL Utah, is 13-8-1, with a 2.56 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. Blair Allison is 12-3-3, with a 2.35 goals against average and .910 save percentage.
TRICKY: Delisle is tied for the league lead for multiple hat tricks this season (12/17/03 vs BAK and 12/19/03 vs BAK). Lance Galbraith also tallied a hat trick on 01/03/04 @ Fresno in the first Steelheads game at the new Save Mart Center. Idaho's captain, defenseman Jeremy Mylymok recorded a hat trick on 01/17/04 in Fresno leading the Steelheads to a 7-2 victory.
