
Checkers try one of everything

Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC â The Charlotte Checkers (6-2-1; 13 PTS; 1ST East Div) went 1-1-1 last week as they fell in a shootout Wednesday night at home against Atlantic City, won 4-1 on the road against Augusta, then saw another 4-1 lead disappear in a loss to Greenville. This week, the Checkers play four games in five nights, beginning Tuesday in Columbia vs. the Inferno. Wednesday night, the Checkers host the Texas Wildcatters for the first time this season. Friday night, the team travels to Gwinnett before returning home again to avenge last week's loss against Greenville.
LAST WEEK
Wednesday, November 10 vs. Atlantic City, 7:00 p.m. T 3-4
Down 2-0 in the first period, Eddie Pershin cut the lead in half with 1:29 left in the period. Matt Chandler knotted the score in the second and Dusty Jamieson put the win in sight at 5:08 of the third. The Checkers were within 54 seconds of a victory when the Bullies tied it up 3-3. Both teams were blanked in overtime and the Bullies walked away with the shootout win.
Friday, November 12 @ Augusta W4-1
Four different players including Jason Dawe, Ryan Lang, Eddie Pershin and Dusty Jamieson had goals in the winning effort against the Lynx. Lang's game-winning goal was his first as a professional while Jamieson's tally was his third in as many games. Rookie goalie Kelly Guard won his third straight in as many starts with 22 saves. Mike Harder had two assists to extend his point streak to eight games.
Saturday, November 13 @ Greenville, 7:00pm L 4-5
The Checkers dropped their first road game after building a 4-1 lead in the second period. Dusty Jamieson increased his goal-scoring streak to four, and Mike Harder stretched his point streak to nine games with a goal and two assists. Dwight Helminen and Lee Falardeau both scored their first professional goals, putting the Checkers up 4-1. A Greenville power play goal in the second and an early third period goal lifted the Grrrowl spirits and they put two more on the board to take the lead with 11:00 left. Coach Wilkinson pulled goalie Alex Westlund to give the Checkers a 6-4 advantage on a power play with 1:36 left but the Grrrowl held on for the win.

* Forward Dusty Jamieson has a four game goal-streak.
* Defenseman Rory Rawlyk is currently tied for second in the league with a +/- rating of +8. Overall, the Checkers have six players with a +4 rating or higher. They are Matt Chandler (+4), Ryan Glenn (+4), Dusty Jamieson (+4), Eddie Pershin (+6), Dan Preston (+5), and Rory Rawlyk (+8).
* Checkers goalie Kelly Guard is undefeated in three starts with a record of 3-0-0, 1.66 GAA and .930 save percentage.
* Center Mike Harder has a nine-game point streak with four goals, nine assists (tied for 2nd highest in the league) and thirteen points (tied for 3rd highest in league).
* Dan Preston is tied for first in the league for points by defensemen with one goal and eight assists (nine points total). Preston's eight assists also has him tied for the top spot in total assists.
* Defensemen Jake Taylor and David Liffiton have both been recalled to Hartford. Brandon Cullen has been listed on 7-day IR with a minor shoulder injury.
