Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs (4-0-5; 13 PTS; T-2nd North div.) are now just one of two ECHL teams (Bakersfield) that have not lost in regulation this season. The Chiefs were 2-0-1 last week as they fell in a shootout Wednesday night at Trenton and then picked up a pair of wins at home over the Peoria Rivermen. This week the Chiefs will play four games in five nights, beginning Wednesday night against the Wheeling Nailers. The game will be played in suburban Pittsburgh at the Southpointe rink complex. Friday night will be the first of a home and home series with the Dayton Bombers. Sunday afternoon the Chiefs wrap up a busy week at Toledo.

GAME #7 (11/10/04) TRENTON 3 - Johnstown 2 (SO)
Cann 34 Saves

The Johnstown Chiefs continued to struggle in the shootout as they fell 3-2 at the hands of the Trenton Titans, Wednesday night at Sovereign Bank Arena. Mike James and Brent Kelly scored the Johnstown goals. Phil Lewandowski scored both Trenton goals. Chiefs goaltender David Cann made 34 saves in the contest. Chris Houle made 32 saves for the Titans.

GAME #8 (11/12/04) JOHNSTOWN 6 - Peoria 5
Mather Goal, Two Assists

Jean Desrochers' goal with 1:22 left in the third period lifted the Chiefs to a 6-5 win over the Rivermen at the War Memorial Arena in front of a crowd of 3,351. Steve Hildenbrand had a pair of goals for the Chiefs. Shawn Mather, Joe Tallari and P.L. Courchesne also scored for the Chiefs. Troy Riddle scored twice for Peoria, while Brian McCullough, Randy Rowe and Justin Maiser also tallied. Chiefs goaltender David Currie got his third win of the season making 24 saves. Alfie Michaud made 22 saves for the Rivermen.

GAME #9 (11/13/04) JOHNSTOWN 5 - Peoria 2
Hildenbrand Goal, Two Assists

The Johnstown Chiefs broke a 2-2 tie with three, third period goals to defeat the visiting Peoria Rivermen 5-2, Saturday night at the War Memorial Arena. Brent Kelly led the Chiefs with a pair of goals. Steve Hildenbrand, Mike James and Matt Reid also scored. Peoria's goal scorers were Justin Maiser and Trevor Johnson. Chiefs goaltender David Cann posted his first professional win making 27 saves. Chris Beckford-Tseu suffered the loss for the Rivermen making 20 saves.

Wednesday, will take to the road and take on the Wheeling Nailers (5-6-0, 10 PTS; T-5th North div.). The game will be played in suburban Pittsburgh at the Southpointe rink complex in Canonsburg. The Chiefs are 1-0-0 against the Nailers this season and 50-45-12 all-time. The Nailers have scored an ECHL low 18 goals this season (1.6 goals/game). Former Chiefs goaltender Dany Sabourin is 5-2-0 with a 1.07 GAA and 0.964 save percentage in eight games with Wheeling.

Friday and Saturday night, the Chiefs will play a home and home series with the Dayton Bombers (5-5-0, 10 PTS; T-5th North div.). The Chiefs are 0-0-1 versus the Bombers this season and 44-46-9 all-time. The Bombers have lost two straight games.

Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs close out a busy week when they travel to Toledo to take on the Storm (5-2-3, 13 PTS; T-2nd North div.). This is the first of nine games this season between the two teams. Last season, the Chiefs were 5-2-1 against the Storm, outscoring them 26-25.
