Mississippi Settles For One Point

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Sea Wolves captured one of a possible four points last week in a home-and-home series with Louisiana.

At the Cajundome in Lafayette on Friday, Louisiana handed Mississippi a 6-2 loss. In the second game of the home-and-home series, the Sea Wolves fell 2-1 in the shootout against the IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

After 10 of 72 regular season games, the Sea Wolves have an overall record of 4-5-1 for nine points. Mississippi is 4-2-1 at home, 0-3-0 on the road and 2-1 in shootouts.

Mississippi is tied for fourth place in the South Division with Louisiana and sits in a seventh place tie with the IceGators and Columbia Inferno in the American Conference, six points out of first place, which is held by the South Carolina Stingrays.

* Louisiana goaltender Nathan Marsters, who was making his pro debut, made a total of 43 saves in regulation and overtime, plus four stops in the shootout to collect the win
* Mississippi's Matt Underhill turned away 25 shots in the shootout defeat
* Sea Wolves' Pat O'Leary netted his first goal of the season in the setback
* IceGators' Randy Dagenais scored his first of the year
* In the shootout, Louisiana's David Bararuk and Pascal Pelletier tallied markers

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Left wing Anthony Battaglia tallied a pair of goals on Friday's in the Sea Wolves 6-2 setback at Louisiana. The 6-foot and 195-pound Battaglia has registered a total of three goals and seven points in 10 games for Mississippi this season. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Battaglia is in his third professional season and second year with the Sea Wolves.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – Goaltender Matt Underhill stopped a total of 25-of-26 shots in the regulation and overtime against Louisiana on Saturday, only to drop a 2-1 shootout decision at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Underhill has appeared in two games this season for Mississippi, going 0-1-1 with a 3.36 goals against average and save percentage of .887. The 6-foot-2 and 220-pound Underhill is in his third season of pro hockey and first year with Mississippi.
