Checkers go 1-2-1 during 10-day road trip

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers faced a rough week with four away games against Pensacola on Tuesday night, and a three-game series at Texas. The Checkers suffered at 2-1 loss at Pensacola on Tuesday night with Chris Holt in goal. The team then traveled to Beaumont, Texas where they suffered losses on both Thursday and Friday night, 4-3 in a shootout and 4-0, respectively. The Checkers came back against Texas on Saturday night, though, to defeat the Wildcatters 5-3. Saturday night, goaltender, Alex Westlund started for the first time in three weeks due to injury, and he blocked 50 of 53 shots on goal for the evening. The Checkers return to Pensacola Tuesday night, and then return home for a matchup against the Trenton Titans on Friday. Saturday and Sunday the team travels to Georgia for games against Augusta and Gwinnett.

Tuesday, December 5, 2006 @ Pensacola, L, 2-1

The Charlotte Checkers started their season-long, five-game, ten-day road trip with a solid 60-minute effort. The only thing missing was a victory. Pensacola goalie Mike Ayers was exceptional with 33 saves in helping lead the Ice Pilots to a 2-1 victory over the Checkers Tuesday night in Florida. Ayers thwarted the Checkers most of the night, including 14 big stops in the final period.

Thursday, December 7, 2006 @ Texas, L, 4-3

The Charlotte Checkers picked up their first point on their season long, five-game road trip in a 4-3 shootout loss Thursday night to the Texas Wildcatters in Beaumont, Texas. Charlotte's Daymen Rycroft knotted the game at 3-3 with just 28 seconds left in the third period after Checkers Coach Derek Wilkinson pulled goalie Chris Holt for a sixth attacker. Rycroft's tally helped the Checkers erase a two-goal Texas advantage.

Friday, December 8, 2006, @ Texas, L, 4-0

For the third straight game, the Charlotte Checkers outplayed the opposition and lost. Charlotte peppered Texas goalie Matt Yeats with 53 shots but none went in, as the Wildcatters shut out the Checkers 4-0 Friday night in Beaumont, Texas. Charlotte also went scoreless on ten power-play attempts.

Saturday, December 9, 2006, @ Texas, W, 5-3 The Charlotte Checkers picked up Saturday night right where they left off Friday night, only the results were vastly different. After amassing 53 shots on Friday night but no goals in a 4-0 loss, the Checkers scored twice in the game's first minute and built a 3-1 first-period lead en route to a 5-3 victory over the Texas Wildcatters Saturday night in Beaumont.
