WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers today announce that defenseman Ben Blais has been called up by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. This will be the first AHL assignment for the second year professional.

Blais, a 9th round selection of the New York Islanders in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, played last season for the Adirondack IceHawks of the United Hockey League, under head coach Pat Bingham. In 76 games last season he had five goals and 16 assists for 21 points and had a rating of +27.

The 25 year-old, native of Saratoga Springs, NY, again playing for Bingham, has played in 34 games for the Nailers. Blais has one goal and five assists and is playing at a +2. Before his professional career began, Blais played his college hockey at Quinnipiac College. In 69 games for Quinnipiac he had three goals and 17 assists for 20 points.

To fill the defensive spot on the Nailers roster, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has sent Alex Rouleau to Wheeling. This will be the second assignment to Wheeling this season for Rouleau. He appeared in three games for the Nailers from October 31-November 2. In those games he did not register a point and had a rating of a +2. The Nailers went 2-0-1 in those three games.

The Nailers play two home games this weekend against the Reading Royals at WesBanco Arena. The Royals will be in town at 7:30p.m. on Friday and 2:00p.m. on Sunday.
