San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO – Ashlee Langdone made his return to the Sports Arena Tuesday night, but it wasn't a fun homecoming. The fans gave him a warm welcome, but his ex-teammates weren't as enthused. Mark Pederson stole Langdone's limelight with two goals and an assist, leading the San Diego Gulls to a 4-3 victory over the Texas Wildcatters.

After a scoreless first period, San Diego (20-8-2) opened up a 2-0 lead with two straight power-play goals in the second. Mike Garrow struck first at 6:25 connecting on a pass from Mark Pederson. The play started with Kevin Grant dumping the puck into the Texas zone from center ice. It took a funny hop and bounced right to Pederson, who found Garrow streaking in from the point.

Billy Tibbetts then potted one with the man advantage at 8:22, also connecting with Pederson. Sylvain Deschatelets had the puck along the right wing boards and worked it over to Pederson. The veteran forward then dished it to Tibbetts, who beat Davis Parley with a wicked wrister.

Then the fans got what they were waiting for... a scrap between Langdone and Josh Gratton. And what a scrap it was. Both heavyweights traded haymakers, but it was Gratton who held the edge. What else is new?

The Wildcatters (9-22-3) cut the lead in a half with a power-play goal of their own at 13:45 of the second. Rob Guinn, wide-open at the point, took a pass from newcomer John Campbell and fired a slap shot past a screened David Burleigh.

Lukas Smital tied it, 2-2, with a soft backhander 3:28 into the third period. Martin Masa found Smital, who skated in from the blue line and lifted it over Burleigh's shoulder.

Pederson regained the San Diego lead with a breakaway goal at 8:24. Tibbetts grabbed a pass from Deschatelets and sprung Pederson, who snuck behind the Texas defense and beat Parley five-hole. It was Pederson's third point of the night. Tibbetts and Deschatelets earned their second points with the helpers.

Dan Cousineau added the game-winning marker at 12:06, sending a backhander past Parley's left pad. David Neale won the faceoff and it eventually came to Cousineau, who weaved his way to the front of the net.

John Snowden cut the lead back to one at 16:01, but it was too little too late for Texas. Burleigh and company held the fort from there and skated away with the 4-3 win.
