Buffalo Bisons News Release

ALLENTOWN, PA - Opening up a six-game series from Coca-Cola Park, the Buffalo Bisons defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 3-2 on Tuesday night from Allentown. The Herd won the previous series against the IronPigs 4-2 last month.

The Bisons struck early when Zack Collins drove home Otto López with an RBI single in the first, and once more in the sixth when Nathan Lukes went deep for his fifth home run of the season.

Mike Ellenbest made his first start for the Bisons after making his Triple-A debut in relief over the weekend, doing so as an opener for Max Castillo. Ellenbest had a 1-2-3 first with a pair of K's before handing it over to Castillo.

The big righty continued dominating Triple-A hitters by throwing four innings of one-hit, shutout ball. Castillo has given up just 10 hits and two earned runs over 27.1 innings of work with the Bisons this year.

Nate Pearson made his third rehab outing with the Herd following Castillo and gave up a solo homer to Mickey Moniak before striking out two in his first inning of work. He came back out for the seventh and followed up with a 1-2-3 inning with another pair of K's. Pearson threw 43 total pitches across his two frames.

The IronPigs had a similar semi-bullpen night as Buffalo; Corey Oswalt started and went three solid innings allowing just one run, Aaron Barrett had a clean fourth, before James Marvel went 3.2 innings with Lukes' homer being the only blemish.

The Herd tacked on an insurance run after Pigs shortstop Drew Maggi made two errors on a play that would've ended the inning, but instead allowed Collins to reach and Tanner Morris to score.

Brandon Eisert got into a of jam in the eighth with runners on the corners and nobody out, but got out of it with minimal damage by getting Moniak hung up on a pickoff attempt and then striking out a pair, though a runner did score from third while dealing with Moniak.

Adrian Hernandez then came on the ninth and closed out the win despite giving up a leadoff double to record his sixth save of the season.

The Bisons and IronPigs will continue their series tomorrow night with a pair of lefties on the mound, Nick Allgeyer for the Herd and Ricardo Sanchez for the Pigs. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.
