Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (34-27) lost 3-2 to the Buffalo Bisons (34-26) on Tuesday evening at Coca-Cola Park. The 'Pigs fell short as they tried to come back in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Bisons took a 1-0 lead against Corey Oswalt (1-2) in the top of the first inning. Zack Collins hit an RBI single that scored Otto Lopez with two outs in the inning. It would be the only run Oswalt would allow through three innings pitched.
Aaron Barrett pitched a scoreless top of the fourth inning before James Marvel took over to pitch in the top of the fifth inning. Mike Ellenbest pitched a scoreless inning to start the game for Buffalo. Maximo Castillo (2-0) pitched four scoreless innings of relief for the Bisons.
Nathan Lukes hit a solo home run against Marvel in the top of the sixth inning to give Buffalo a 2-0 lead. The last time Marvel gave up a home run was on May 11 against Lukes at Coca-Cola Park. Mickey Moniak hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning against Nate Pearson to cut Buffalo's lead to 2-1.
Tanner Morris scored a run in the top of the eighth inning on a fielding error by Drew Maggi that extended Buffalo's lead to 3-1. The 'Pigs were able to score a run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Maggi scored from third base on a pick-off, caught-stealing at second base.
Adrian Hernandez earned his sixth save of the season by pitching a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.
The IronPigs and Bisons play again on Wednesday evening at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
