
Jacksonville Scores Nine Runs in Opening Win against Charlotte

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Bryson Brigman and Lewin Díaz blasted two home runs as Jacksonville cruised to a 9-3 win against the Charlotte Knights to open their six-game series Tuesday night at Truist Field.
Jacksonville (33-28) entered the top of the sixth trailing 3-1. With one out, Peyton Burdick walked and Díaz (13) blasted a two-run home run, tying the game at three. Three batters later, Charles Leblanc and Brian Miller walked and Erik González singled to right field scoring Leblanc for a 4-3 lead. Charlotte outfielder Micker Adolfo mishandled the ball and that allowed Miller to score to push the lead to 5-3 in favor of the Jumbo Shrimp.
Jacksonville added two more runs in the seventh. Burdick started the inning with a double and scored on a double by Díaz in the following at-bat. Two batters later, JJ Bleday singled, scoring Díaz to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 7-3 lead.
The Jumbo Shrimp plated two runs in the ninth inning and took a commanding lead. Brigman (5) led off with a home run pushing the lead to 8-3. Burdick was hit by a pitch and Díaz reached on an error. With runners at first and second, Bleday reached on an error, scoring Burdick to give Jacksonville a 9-3 lead.
Charlotte (28-38) took the lead in the fourth inning. With two out, Mark Payton singled and Micker Adolfo (6) blasted a two-run home run giving Charlotte a 2-0 lead.
Jacksonville got a run back in the top of the fifth. Leblanc led off with a single and advanced to second on a single by Miller. González hit into a double play but Leblanc went to third and scored on a double from Santiago Chavez to make the score 2-1.
Charlotte added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Laz Rivera singled with one out and went to third on a single by Tim Anderson. Adam Haseley flew out to left and Rivera scored on the sac fly giving the Knights a 3-1 lead.
The Jumbo Shrimp got a great effort from their pitchers. Will Stewart (W, 1-1) tied a season-high with seven innings pitched. He allowed three runs on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts. George Soriano and Andrew Nardi combined for two scoreless innings, two hits and two strikeouts.
Jacksonville continues their series with Charlotte Wednesday at 7:04 p.m. LHP Daniel Castano (3-0, 4.82) gets the ball for the Jumbo Shrimp and Charlotte will counter with LHP John Parke (2-5, 6.87). Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN 690 and espn690.com.
