Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls (32-29) defeated the Louisville Bats (22-38) with a 4-3 walk-off victory on Tuesday night to open a six-game set at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded, Durham DH Josh Lowe connected on the game-winning RBI single, his third RBI of the night, to secure the win and give the Bulls their second walk-off victory of the season. Lowe earlier in the fifth tied the game at three with a two-run double off the left field wall.
Louisville wasted no time getting on the board as SS Jose Barrero went yard on a leadoff solo shot. Durham would answer in the bottom of the first as 3B Jonathan Aranda used a sacrifice fly RBI to even the game at one. After a scoreless second inning, the Bats would jump ahead again off an RBI single from DH Donovan Solano. CF Stuart Fairchild extended the Louisville lead to 3-1 on a solo shot, the team's second of the game in the fourth.
Bulls pitcher Kevin Herget got the start on the mound, and in six innings of work he allowed three runs on eight hits while ringing up eight strikeouts. Durham reliever Dusten Knight (2-1) earned the win, while Louisville pitcher Fernando Cruz (1-3) picked up the loss.
The Bulls and Bats will return to the DBAP on Wednesday for game two of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. LHP Josh Fleming (6-0, 0.98) is expected to start for Durham and LHP Justin Nicolino (1-1, 8.38) is expected for Louisville.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home dates can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com/tickets.
