June 3, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
One of the best summertime traditions in Western New York is only a month away! The Buffalo Bisons' 21st annual KeyBank Independence Eve Celebration with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus is Friday, July 3rd at Coca-Cola Field as the Herd hosts the Syracuse Chiefs (6:05 p.m.).
Today, the Bisons and BPO announced the Concert Program for the post-game show following the game between Buffalo and Syracuse. Once again, Bisons fans of all ages will enjoy numerous pop culture tributes and great American classics performed by the world-famous Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus.
Since the event's debut in 1995, nearly 400,000 fans have celebrated our great nation's independence at the ballpark with the Bisons.
At the heart of the post-game concert each year is the recognition of each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces during the performance of Bob Lowden's Armed Forces Salute. In honoring each branch of the military, the Bisons invite all current or former veterans of the military to proudly stand and be recognized for their supreme sacrifice and service to our country during the hymn of each branch.
2015 also marks the anniversary of a pair of important dates in American military history. It was 150 years ago this year the American Civil War came to an end. In tribute, the BPO and Chorus will perform William Steffe's arrangement of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. This year is also the 70th anniversary of the end of the second World War, honored this July 3rd by Richard Rodger's Victory at Sea.
Other patriotic classics to be played this year include Tchaikovsky's Overture 1812 and Philip Rothman's America the Beautiful. This year's show will also feature a pair of John Philip Sousa marches, Invincible Eagle March and Stars and Stripes Forever.
Each year, maestro Paul Ferington and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus also look to pay tribute to significant moments in American pop culture. In a year that would've included Frank Sinatra's 100th birthday, the BPO will pay tribute to the great American crooner with New York, New York. The concert will also honor the 50th anniversary of the movie release of The Sound of Music. The 40th anniversary of the film Jaws will be honored with a medley from the BPO and fans off all ages will be able to sing along with music from the animated blockbuster, Frozen.
