June 3, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs lost 4-2 against the Louisville Bats on Wednesday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. Bruce Billings allowed only one earned run in six innings of work and Caleb Ramsey registered two hits in the Chiefs' loss.

Louisville (28-25) leaped out to an early 1-0 lead in the third inning against the Syracuse starter Billings. The Bats belted four hits in a row in the inning against Billings, but only had one run to show for it. After Steve Lerud threw out Jose Constanza trying to steal second, Jermaine Curtis and Eugenio Suarez both singled to put two runners on with one away. Steve Selsky followed with the fourth consecutive single for Louisville to drive in Curtis for the 1-0 lead.

Syracuse (17-36) struck back in the bottom of the inning against Josh Smith. Caleb Ramsey led off the frame with a single to center field. Then, Josh Johnson ripped a double into right-center field to put runners on second and third with no outs. Billings helped out his own cause with a sacrifice fly to center field to square the game at one. The next batter, Darin Mastroianni, drove in his third run in three games with an RBI double to left field to give the Chiefs a 2-1 advantage.

The Bats wasted no time and tied the score at two in the top of the fourth inning. After Ryan LaMarre singled to open the inning, Yorman Rodriguez drew a walk to put two on with nobody out. Josh Satin stepped up next and grounded a ball to the third basemen Jason Martinson. Syracuse tried to turn two, but the second basemen Johnson committed a throwing error on the throw to first, which allowed LaMarre to score from second to tie the game at two.

The Bats retook the lead in the top of the ninth against Mitch Lively and Rich Hill. After Lively sat down LaMarre on strikes to open the inning, he allowed a walk to Rodriguez and a double from Josh Satin. Pinch-hitter Chris Dominguez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Then, Constanza drew a five-pitch walk to force in the go ahead run. Lively, who was unhappy with the call on 3-1, was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. Hill replaced Lively and allowed another run to score after plunking Curtis to give the Bats a 4-2 lead in the final inning.

Syracuse opens up a quick two-game set against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday at 7:05 p.m at NBT Bank Stadium. The Chiefs send right-hander A.J. Cole to the mound against RailRiders right-hander Jaron Long.
