Mud Hens Drop Close Decision in Columbus

June 3, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Toledo Mud Hens starter Tim Melville pitched eight innings, allowing only three hits and one run, but that was enough offense for the Columbus Clippers to beat the Hens 1-0 on Wednesday in Columbus, snapping a five-game winning streak for Toledo.

The only run of the game was scored in the bottom of the eighth when Clippers Shortstop Fransisco Lindor flied out to Mud Hens right fielder Steven Moya, scoring Brett Hayes from third on a sacrifice fly. Hayes doubled to open the inning and was moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt by Audy Ciriaco. The Mud Hens tried to get a rally going in the ninth when Jefry Marte singled with one out, but Jordan Lennerton grounded into a double play to end the game.

Tim Melville walked three Clippers batters and struck out one, and takes the loss, dropping his record to 2-5. Clippers reliever Kyle Crockett pitched the eighth and gets the win, improving his record to 1-1. The Mud Hens fall to 24-30, and the Clippers improve to 27-27.

The Toledo Mud Hens return home on Friday, June 5 to take on the Columbus Clippers at Fifth Third Field, with first pitch at 7 p.m.
