Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

EVEN STEVEN: The RailRiders edged the PawSox last night, 3-2, to tie the series and force a rubber match today.

THAT'S A START: In his first regular-season action as a member of Yankees organization, southpaw Jose DePaula (1-0) fired five-plus scoreless innings of four-hit ball on 79 pitches (53 strikes). It marked his first outing since July 23, 2014 at Albuquerque while with Triple-A Fresno. Going back to those days as a Giants' farmhand, DePaula has won each of his last four decisions over a span of five starts. He became the 15th different 2015 RailRider to start a game.

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN: Brendan Ryan singled and walked in a 1-for-3 effort last night. In his first rehab outing with SWB, he started at third base and batted second. He told the media after the game that today would mark his last game with the RailRiders and that his rehab would then shift to Double-A Trenton.

TYLER TIME: Tyler Austin crushed his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot off the walking bridge above the bullpens. All four of his home runs have come at the expansive PNC Field and three have been hit since May 19, a span of 14 games played.

ONE-RUN FUN: The RailRiders improved to an IL-best 12-5 in one-run games including wins in nine of their last 11 single-score contests.

INHERITANCE TAX: SWB's bullpen stranded three inherited runners in the win. Diego Moreno left a man and Tyler Webb marooned two. Webb has received 14 hand-me-down men on the season and has only seen two of them score.

RISPY BUSINESS: The PawSox went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and have gone 1-for-19 (.053) in such cirucmstances on the series. All seven Pawtucket runs on the series have come via the home run.

WALK LIKE A MAN: Ben Gamel received an intentional walk in the eighth inning. He is the only RailRider to see multiple on-purpose free passes this year. Gamel had enjoyed just two on his career entering this season, both with Advanced-A Tampa in 2013.

RUBBER OR GLUE?: The RailRiders have lost four straight series-deciding games after besting the IronPigs in their first on May 22. SWB has lost rubber matches versus Gwinnett May 7, at Norfolk May 13, versus Charlotte May 20 and Sundays finale against the Tides.

PAWTUCKET POP: Mason Williams went 0-for-4 to snap his nine-game hitting streak. After he started his Triple-A time 1-for-10, he went 15-for-37 (.405) with six extra-base hits and four walks (.463 OBP) during his run. A healthy portion of the Pawtucket native's success has come against his hometown team. He has hit .350/.435/.500/.935 in five games against the PawSox, going 7-for-20 with three doubles, three RBIs and three walks.

ARE YOU TOO GOOD FOR YOUR HOME?: The RailRiders stand six games below .500 at PNC Field (13-19) and seven games over on the road (14-7). The team has hit .284 on the road compared to a .245 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 105 runs in 21 games (5.0/game). At home, the squad has plated 106 runs in 32 games (3.3/game). The pitching has performed better at home (3.47 ERA) than outside of Moosic (3.88). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.667) and no IL squad has more home losses than SWB (19). In fact, only one team in all of full-season MiLB (120 teams) has more home losses than the RailRiders. The Milwaukee Brewers' Low-A affiliate, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, have struggled to the tune of a 7-22 record at Fox Cities Stadium. In the IL, only Syracuse at 8-16 (.333) has a worse home winning percentage than SWB (.406).
