Chiefs to Host Action-Packed Fireworks Friday
June 3, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release
The Syracuse Chiefs, who are in the midst of a seven-game homestand, are excited to announce the team's most promotionally-packed night of the year this upcoming Friday, June 5th, when the Chiefs play the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at 7:05 p.m.
Upstate Urology is sponsoring Friday night's game to raise awareness for prostate cancer screenings and all urological health issues. The Chiefs will wear blue wristbands and autograph a blue bat, which will be raffled off during the game. In addition, Chiefs general manager Jason Smorol will try to raise extra awareness by receiving a prostate exam during the seventh-inning stretch
"I'm 46 years old and need to be screened", said Smorol. "I know I can get a simple blood test, but I want to raise as much awareness to this cause as possible. If one fan goes and gets a simple blood test and is saved, this will be worth it. We want to show fans how quick and easy it is as this prostate exam won't even span the full length of 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game'!"
Friday's theme is Pro Wrestling Night. Former WWE star "Hurricane" Helms will sign autographs on the concourse before the game from 5 to 7 p.m., with wrestling-themed promotions slated for throughout the night.
Family-friendly mascot Reggy the Purple Party Dude will also be on hand Friday to provide his world-renowned brand of entertainment. Reggy, who wowed the NBT Bank Stadium crowd last season in April, will conclude a three-day run at Chiefs games on Friday night.
Additionally, Friday night marks this year's Boy Scout Sleepover Night. Members of the Boy Scouts will participate in a pregame parade, camp out overnight and watch a movie on the NBT Bank Stadium video board.
As normally scheduled, June 5th marks another Fireworks Friday, sponsored by Upstate Urology and by regular Fireworks Friday partner 93Q. Fans can enjoy fireworks after this week's game and all other Friday home games. In addition, every Friday home game this year, the Chiefs will be hosting Happy Hour on the concourse, meaning gates open two hours early at 5 p.m. Fans can enjoy $3 draft Budweiser, Labatt and Saranac products & 1911 Hard Ciders from 5 to 6:30, with music on the concourse from the band Simplelife.
"Friday night represents the minor leagues at their best", said Smorol. "We can't wait to bring fireworks, entertainment, and an important message to thousands of fans all in one night of affordable family fun!"
Friday night's game pits the Chiefs against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. Luis Severino, rated the Yankees' #1 prospect by Baseball America, is currently scheduled to start on Friday against a Chiefs pitcher to be announced.
Tickets for Friday's game and all other Chiefs games are available and can purchased online at syracusechiefs.com, by calling 315-474-7833 or by visiting the NBT Bank Stadium ticket office during regular business hours.
