Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Chadwick Tromp launched a long home run in the fourth inning that completed the Gwinnett Stripers' comeback from an early 3-0 deficit, but the Indianapolis Indians (50-54) responded with a pair of home runs in the middle innings to score four unanswered runs and hand the Stripers (46-58) a 7-4 loss on Thursday night at Coolray Field.
Decisive Plays: Indianapolis led 3-0 midway through the third thanks to a two-run triple from Mason Martin and RBI single from Aaron Shackleford. Gwinnett tied the game in the home half of the third, getting RBI singles from Sam Hilliard and Dalton Guthrie. Tromp's solo homer (7) put the Stripers ahead 4-3 in the fourth. Consecutive two-run innings from Indianapolis, with a pair of homers from Miguel Andujar (15) and Domingo Leyba (2) in the sixth, catapulted the Indians ahead 7-4, a score that held the rest of the way.
Key Contributors: Tromp (1-for-4, homer, RBI) hit the Stripers' first homer of the series while Hilliard (2-for-3, BB) and Jesus Aguilar (2-for-3, double) had the two multi-hit games. For Indianapolis, Martin (2-for-4, triple, 2 RBIs) and Luis Hernandez (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) combined to drive in four of the seven runs. Andujar (3-for-6, homer, RBI) has recorded multi-hit efforts in each game of this series.
Noteworthy: Vaughn Grissom extended his on-base streak to 28 games with a walk in the third inning. Tromp's home run travelled 432 feet, making it the fifth longest of the season for Gwinnett and second longest of the season for Tromp, who also has the team's longest homer at 476 feet (May 24 vs. Durham).
Next Game (Friday, August 4th): Gwinnett vs. Indianapolis, 7:05 p.m. ET at Coolray Field. Broadcast: 6:50 p.m. ET on MyCountry99.3.com and Bally Live.
