July 20, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

(Allentown, PA) - IronPigs pitcher and Philadelphia native Jesse Biddle was named International League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 13-19, as announced by league officials today. He becomes the first Lehigh Valley hurler to win the award this season and joins OF Brian Bogusevic, named Batter of the Week from May 4-10, as the only Pigs to receive weekly honors in 2015.

In just his second career start in Triple-A, Biddle started a 1-0 shutout over the first-place Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field on Friday, July 17. The 23-year-old lefty tossed 7.0 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits - all singles - and one walk while striking out seven batters en route to his first IL victory. He finished the outing by retiring 13 of his final 15 batters faced before RHP Juan Gutierrez and LHP Adam Loewen completed the Pigs' 11th all-time 1-0 win (ninth in a nine-inning affair).

The Phillies' 1st-round pick (27th overall) in 2010 started the season in Reading, going 7-2 with a 4.23 ERA in 15 starts before making his Triple-A debut on July 8 against Pawtucket. In parts of three seasons in Double-A, he has combined to go 15-26 with a 4.19 ERA in 58 starts (301.0 IP, 291 SO).

Biddle, a product of Germantown Friends School (PA), becomes the first Pigs pitcher to win the award since RHP Brad Lincoln on June 9, 2014, and just the 10th individual Pigs pitcher to receive this honor all-time. This also marks the 12th time a Lehigh Valley pitcher has been selected, as both RHP Justin Lehr and LHP Greg Smith have been named twice.
