International League Names Players of the Week
July 20, 2015 - International League (IL1) News Release
The International League announced today that Charlotte second baseman Micah Johnson and Lehigh Valley pitcher Jesse Biddle have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from July 16-Â19.  Johnson's award is the fifth for Charlotte this season, tied with Rochester for most in the IL, as he joins previous honorees Carlos Sanchez (April 13-Â19 & April 27-ÂMay 3), Erik Johnson (June 15-Â21), and Kyle Drabek (July 6-Â12).  Biddle is the second member of the IronPigs to claim an IL weekly award this season, following Brian Bogusevic (May 4-Â10).Â
MICAH JOHNSON, Charlotte Knights          IL BATTER OF THE WEEKÂ
Knights second baseman Micah Johnson hit .500 during the first four games since the All-ÂStar Break, leading the IL over that stretch with ten hits, seven runs scored, 15 total bases, and four stolen bases for the South Division leaders.  Johnson saved the day Friday against Norfolk, producing a game- tying RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning in an eventual 5-Â4 Knights victory.  He now has five straight games with multiple hits.  Johnson has raised his average on the season to .326 and is just a few plate appearances shy of qualifying in the League batting race, in which he would currently be sitting 2nd.  24-Âyear-Âold Micah Johnson is in his fourth year as a professional player after being selected by the White Sox in the 9th round of the 2012 draft out of Indiana University.  He made his Major League debut earlier this season with Chicago, hitting .270 in 27 games.  Johnson is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana.Â
JESSE BIDDLE, Lehigh Valley IronPigs             IL PITCHER OF THE WEEKÂ
Left-Âhander Jesse Biddle turned in the International League's most dominant start during the All-ÂStar shortened week, defeating Rochester on Friday night at Frontier Field by tossing 7.0 innings of three- hit, one-Âwalk baseball while striking out seven.  It was just the second-Âcareer Triple-ÂA start for the Phillies farmhand, who struggled mightily in his debut outing with Lehigh Valley back on July 8.  This time Biddle threw 61 of 100 pitches for strikes and recorded eight outs on the ground with only three in the air.  The 1-Â0 victory was his third scoreless start of the 2015 campaign.  The previous two lasted just five innings with Double-ÂA Reading.  23-Âyear-Âold Jesse Biddle was born in Philadelphia, and in 2010 the Phillies selected him in the 1st round of the draft.  He has been consistently ranked amongst the organization's top prospects, but is still waiting to make his Major League debut.Â
