Toronto Marlies News Release

The St. John's Maple Leafs are proud to announce that Brendan Bell has been named the Maple Leafs' winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the St. John's community and charitable organizations during the 2004-05 season.

During his two years in St. John's, Brendan has actively committed his time to community activities. He has volunteered numerous times this past season to visit schools, promoting Leafs in Education Programs such as Goin' for Goals, Leafs Assembly and Read with the Leafs.

Brendan has also participated in the Sports Celebrities Special Olympics Charity Fundraiser, the School Lunch Association's Lunch with the Leafs Fundraiser, the Leafs Wives' Charity Carnival, the Learn from the Pros Leafs Hockey Clinic, as well as the Leafs Charity Golf Classic.

Brendan also committed to sponsoring the Maple Leafs Munchkins program this past season. This program provides Leafs Tickets to underprivileged and sick children at the Janeway Children's Hospital in St. John's. In addition, Brendan has attended minor hockey practices, demonstrating skating, shooting and passing drills for minor hockey players. Always conducting himself in a professional manner, Brendan Bell has been an excellent representative of the St. John's Maple Leafs on the ice and in the community.

In recognition of his efforts, Bell will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Maple Leafs home game.

Bell is now one of 28 finalists for the 2004-05 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia.
