Cincinnati RailRaiders News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks are proud to announce that center Zenon Konopka has been named the Mighty Ducks winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the Cincinnati community and charitable organizations during the 2004-05 season.

Konopka, 24, has been a vital member of the Mighty Ducks organization both on and off the ice during the 2004-05 season. His dedication, commitment and enthusiasm for being involved in the club's community relations efforts have made a difference in the greater Cincinnati area with children, adults and families.

The native of Niagara Falls, Ontario made regular hospital visits and served as the Mighty Ducks' primary spokesperson for school visits, implementing his own presentation that he gave to students which parallels hockey, school and life. Konopka also participated in youth hockey clinics and events involving the American Cancer Society and Special Olympics.

In recognition of his efforts, Konopka will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Mighty Ducks home game.

Konopka is now one of 28 finalists for the 2004-05 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia.
