HARTFORD, April 5, 2005: The Hartford Wolf Pack are proud to announce that Dominic Moore has been named the Wolf Pack's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contribution to Hartford and area charitable organizations during the 2004-05 season. Besides attending monthly team charity events, Moore played a significant role in two community programs with the Wolf Pack this season.
Along with members of the entire team, Dominic participated in the "Golf For Kids" charity golf tournament, the club's Bowl-A-Thon in aid of Special Olympics, the Connecticut Children's Medical Center's Christmas Party, and the Wolf Pack's "Tip A Player" dinner in support of Gaylord Hospital.
In addition, Dominic participated in a number of reading programs in elementary schools across the greater Hartford area. He spoke with children about the importance of reading and staying in school. He also discussed his ability to combine a good education while pursuing a career in professional sports.
He was also one of five players involved with a unique University of Hartford magnet school program. The curriculum had players working closely with a small group of students interested in physical fitness. Dominic worked with resource staff and educators to teach healthy lifestyle choices to the children, including good eating habits and exercise.
In recognition of his efforts, Moore will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Wolf Pack home game.
Moore is now one of 28 finalists for the 2004-05 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia.
The AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack hockey club is part of Madison Square Garden LP. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in MSG LP, which also includes the New York Rangers (NHL), New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Liberty (WNBA), the MSG Network, Fox Sports Net and the Madison Square Garden arena complex.
