Anaheim Reassigns Goaltender Andersen to Norfolk; Recalls Gibson

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled goaltender John Gibson from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim's primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Ducks have reassigned goaltender Frederik Andersen to Norfolk.

Andersen, 24, returns to Norfolk after posting a 10-2-0 record, a 2.06 goals-against average, and a .923 save percentage in twelve appearances with the Anaheim Ducks this season. The 6-4, 230-pound netminder is 2-0-0 with the Admirals this season, including a 33-save shutout on Oct. 11 vs. Binghamton. He also recorded Norfolk's first victory of the season, a 35-save, 3-2 shootout win on Oct. 5 at Hartford. In addition, Andersen has a 0.96 goals-against average (GAA) and .971 save percentage (SV%) over the two contests in which he has appeared for Norfolk this season.

Selected by Anaheim in the third round (87th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Andersen has gone 26-18-1 in 49 career AHL contests with a 2.14 GAA, .931 SV% and five shutouts. The Herning, Denmark native won six consecutive games from Jan. 25-Mar. 1 for Norfolk in 2012-13, recording a 1.31 GAA and .954 SV% during that span.

Gibson, 20, heads to Anaheim having posted an 11-9-3 record, 2.61 goals against average, .915 save percentage, and two shutouts in 26 appearances with Norfolk this season. The 6-3, 212-pound netminder was name the CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month for October.

The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Gibson won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2013 U20 IIHF World Junior Championships, and was named best goaltender of the tournament as well. After concluding his second season with the Kitchener Rangers (OHL) last spring, the 20-year old netminder made his professional and AHL debut with Norfolk on April 19, 2013 at Syracuse.
