
Syracuse Edged by Providence in Shootout

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch were edged by the Providence Bruins 1-0 in a shootout tonight at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence.
Providence scored three times in the skills competition while netminder Niklas Svedberg turned aside three of five Crunch shooters to secure the victory. Seth Griffith had the game-winning shootout goal in the fourth round, Alexander Khokhlachev and Jared Knight also scored in the tiebreaker. Crunch goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis stopped all 22 shots faced through regulation and overtime while Svedberg stopped all 23. The Syracuse penalty kill unit was a perfect four for four, while the power-play unit failed to score on three opportunities.
By picking up a point the Crunch extended their road point streak to a season-high four games. The loss concludes a five-game road swing where the Crunch earned six of 10 possible points. Syracuse is now 15-14-2-3 overall and 10-7-4-3 on the road. The Crunch are now tied with the Hershey Bears for fourth in the East Division with 36 points.
The Crunch host the Bruins at the War Memorial Arena on Saturday, Jan. 11at 7:00 p.m.
