Americans to Matchup against Winterhawks in Portland

Tri-City and Portland will meet this evening for the 7th game in their 8-game season series. Both teams are desperately looking to get back in the win column. The Ams have lost their last three while Portland is on a 0-7-0-1 streak.

After tonight, they will face each other one last time at the Toyota Center next Saturday. Tri-City is 2-3-1-0 against Portland so far this season. Jake Sloan, who is currently out with a lower body injury, leads head-to-head scoring with 3 goals and 6 assists. Gabe Klassen and Marcus Nguyen each have five goals and three assists against the Americans. Tomas Suchanek has played in net for both of Tri-City's victories and their overtime loss against the Winterhawks.

The Americans played last night at home, falling 4-1 to the Thunderbirds despite an impressive performance against the Western Conference leader. The game remained scoreless until midway through the second period when Seattle opened scoring. The Ams quickly replied with a goal from Jordan Gavin, assisted by Cardona and Belton. The Thunderbirds netted the game-winning goal with five minutes left in the middle frame. Tri-City trailed by just one until the final two minutes of the game. Tomas Suchanek turned aside 32 of 35 shots faced. Last night was Tri-City's sixth loss this season at home.

Jackson Smith, the second-overall selection in the 2022 WHL Prospect Draft has been called up and joins the Ams this weekend. He made his debut earlier this season and contributed a pair of assists in his second ever WHL game. The 2007-born defenseman has played 16 games this season with Edge School U16 Prep, collecting five goals and four assists.
