NEWS & NOTES:
Last Game: The Red Deer Rebels defeated the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-3 Friday night. It was scoreless after the first period but the Rebels took advantage of their opportunities in the 2nd period scoring 4 goals. The Wheat Kings would make things interesting scoring 3 in the third but it wouldn't be enough. Top performers include Nate Danielson and Nolan Ritchie who each had multi point nights and Rylen Roersma's impressive week continued scoring his 4th goal in two nights. Ethan Eskit was inserted into the game in the 3rd period stopping 11 of 12 shots coming for Nick Jones.
March 4th VS Winnipeg ICE : The Wheat Kings and Winnipeg ICE meet for the seventh time this season. This game was originally going to be played Friday, December 16th but was postponed due to poor weather conditions. The Winnipeg ICE are entering this game concluding a 10 game road trip that stretches out 3 weeks. The ICE edged the Wheat Kings 7-6 in OT in their last meeting February 3rd. It was a game where the ICE had a 5-3 lead which then changed to a 6-5 lead for the Wheat Kings but the ICE found a way to force OT and win thanks to Connor McClennon scoring his 2nd of the night. Dawson Pasternak led the way for the Wheat Kings with a 3 point night.
Silver Medal Sask: Team Saskatchewan came close but fell in double overtime over Team Ontario in the Canada Winter Games Gold Medal Game in Prince Edward Island last Saturday. Leading the way is Wheat Kings Top Prospect Joby Baumuller with 5 goals and 5 assists in 6 games played. Baumuller led Team Saskatchewan to a perfect 4-0 in the preliminary round and he scored a pair of goals in Friday night's semi-final against Team Quebec in a 4-3 win. Wheat Kings prospects participating include Joby Baumuller & Emerson Clark (Team Saskatchewan), Easton Odut (Team Manitoba) then Gradey Hope & Ryder Green (Team British Columbia).
Who's Hot: Brett Hyland currently has 19 goals scored in his last 21 games. Forward Nate Danielson has been stellar as of late scoring 15 points in his last 10 games. Danielson is also on a 10 game point streak.. Nolan Ritchie has 47 points in his last 37 games.
