Prince Albert Raiders News Release

The Prince Albert Raiders late third period comeback effort wasn't quite enough, as they fell 5-3 to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night.

The Raiders had back-to-back powerplay chances in the first period, but it was Moose Jaw who scored shorthanded to open the scoring. With Lucas Brenton in the box for delay of game, Jagger Firkus picked a corner with the Warriors down a man, firing a shot past Tikhon Chaika to make it 1-0 with 7:17 left in the first.

1:59 later, the Warriors doubled their lead. Eric Alarie fired a shot from the high slot that may have deflected off a Raider defenceman and past Chaika's glove. The goal made it 2-0, and the Raiders called a timeout, after giving up two goals in just under two minutes.

Moose Jaw poured on the pressure in the Raider zone for much of the first period, outshooting Prince Albert 15-6, as they took a 2-0 lead into the second period.

All three goals scored in the second period came on powerplays. Matthew Gallant started the second period scoring off for the Warriors, scoring his first goal of the season to give Moose Jaw a 3-1 lead.

Niall Crocker answered for the Raiders, taking a pass from Aiden Oiring. Near the goal line, Crocker spun out in front and fired a shot past Jackson Unger for his 16th goal of the season to make it a 3-1 game.

Moose Jaw answered eight minutes later, as Brayden Yager scored his 25th goal of the season to make it a 4-1 Warrior lead, which is what the score would be heading into the third period.

The Raiders brought on the comeback in the third period, and it started early. After a shot from Landon Kosior was stopped by Unger, the puck bobbled around in front of the net. Keaton Sorensen picked it up and slipped home his 22nd goal of the season, making it a 4-2 game just 18 seconds into the third period.

With just over seven minutes remaining, the green and gold made it a one goal game. After their powerplay expired, Prince Albert kept the pressure on in the offensive zone. Right after a faceoff win, Sloan Stanick fed a pass to captain Evan Herman in the slot. Herman wasted no time putting a shot on goal, firing his 15th goal of the season past Unger, making it a 4-3 Warriors lead.

Despite the relentless pressure put on in the Moose Jaw end for the rest of the game, the Raiders could not find one more for the equalizer. Ryder Korczak sealed the deal with an empty net goal with 38 seconds left, as Moose Jaw took the contest by a 5-3 final.

The Raiders (25-31-3-0) return home for a meeting with the Brandon Wheat Kings on Tuesday night. Puck drop is 7pm.
