BRANDON M.B. - The Winnipeg ICE defeat the Brandon Wheat Kings by a score of 8-3 Saturday night.
It was a slow start for the Wheat Kings with the ICE scoring a pair of goals early in the first. It was Conor Geekie opening the scoring with a pass into the slot to make it 1-0 3:01 into the game. With over 14 minutes remaining Evan Friesen would find Ty Nash in the slot to make it 2-0 ICE after one period of play.
In the 2nd period the Wheat Kings would answer on the powerplay with a Nate Danielson goal extending Nate Danielson's point streak to 11 games. Then the game completely fell apart for the Wheat Kings with the ICE scoring 5 goals in the 2nd period. ICE goals were scored in between 6:36 and 16:37 of the 2nd period. Goals were scored by Easton Armstrong, Ben Zloty, Conor Geekie, Zach Benson and then Conor Geekie added yet another completing the hatrick giving the ICE a 7-1 lead heading into the third period. Goaltender Nick Jones would get replaced by Ethan Eskit.
In the third the Wheat Kings got the early goal they needed to gain momentum with Zakhar Polshakov finding Calder Anderson who batted the puck in scoring his 14th of the year. Connor McClennon would score his 41st of the year to make it 8-2 ICE 6:22 into the period. Nolan Flamand would add one late off a great feed by Anthony Wilson giving the Wheat Kings their 3rd goal of the game but in the end it was the ICE with the last laugh winning 8-3.
